    New Twins Stadium!

The Official Site of Minnesota Twins: Ballpark: New Ballpark Model

They put updated renderings and animations of the new stadium up today! I can't wait until this thing is done. It will be fully integrated with the light rail line and the Northstar commuter rail, and will almost sit above I-394. It excites the Twins fan in me and the civil engineer in me.

Let's hope it is enough to keep Hunter and Santana.

Don't they have medication for that?

And no retractable roof. If they ever make the post season again they may regret that one. Not to mention April baseball in the Twin Towns.

I can't wait for the new ballpark. About time they get out of the dome.

    Re: New Twins Stadium!

That's just amazing! I am so going to be there that year they open it (probably won't be opening day though )!

Guess I'll have to see a game at the Metrodome beforehand for a fair comparison

    Re: New Twins Stadium!

I can't wait to see it finished either. Because right now it is not a fun site, I get the privilege of working on this thing from time to time and man is there a lot of stuff going on. It makes your head spin if you sit in the middle of the site and look around.

Really though I think it going to look very good and be a welcome change from the Metrodome, a very small price to pay for a few potential rain outs/cold games. I will also enjoy being able to say that I was lucky enough to be involved with the construction/testing of the site.

I'm a big Twins fan, but I don't think that's going to happen unless they are willing to spend $100-120million on payroll in the new stadium. With a payroll around $70 mil you can't afford to spend $15mil on an aging centerfielder or $30mil on any one player, no matter how good they are. My guess is Santana is a Yankee by opening day 2009, if not sooner.

Oh, and outside baseball in Minneapolis in April or November? Brrrr... That stadium really needs a retractable roof.

Don't waste your time. That is the most sterile and characterless place I've ever seen.

    Re: New Twins Stadium!

Rumor is, even though it's going to be an open-air stadium, there will be some kind of environmental control system in place so that it's warmer in the stadium than otherwise would be (and I'm talking about something besides more butts in seats ). That would be pretty cool to witness.

I'm not a very big Twinkie fan - but I definitely like that over what they currently have. Then again the last time I saw a game in Minnesota I think I was 5?

    amen to that

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: New Twins Stadium!

Just can't beat a stadium like this for a summer sport like baseball. I think they've learned their lesson with the Metrodome.

What a view! I'm a Cubs fan, but Minneapolis is 2 hours closer, so will be going to some Twins game in the future.
