    Good job guys.

So basically in your analysis, and I agree with this, if Jantz and Barnett were to both commit the same exact number of turnovers this year, you'd go with Jantz.

That's what it sounded like to me anyway. The only way that Barnett is really the better option, is if he commits a lot less turnovers than Jantz. But if you knew ahead of time that they were both going to have, let's say 10 INT's this year, you'd go with Jantz just because of all the upside he has physically.

That's pretty much what I think. If Steele could limit his mistakes, this really wouldn't be that much of a contest.

Yeah that's pretty accurate. I learned a lot after interviewing Courtney the other day though. I think that fans have a tendency to focus on the one guy - where it sounds to me like the staff is really looking for the one guy that the team plays for and ultimately scores more points with while captaining the ship.

That guy very well could be Barnett....After all, he is the guy who saved the season last year for Iowa State - if not THE guy, he certainly played a major role in it you know?

It's a fascinating competition. I'm tired of summer. Ready to get this thing going!

Great stuff CW and AA. Also, the insight from your interview with CM was an open door for the fan base into the minds of the staff. Come on fall camp!

    Thanks man.

Im asking because I dont know so dont freak out. For someone that understands the qb position, how many (percetage wise) of Jantz interceptions were his fault, how many were tipped, batted, bad routes, ect? I realize he threw the ball so their all his fault but you know what I mean.

That's difficult to know. Like how many of JB's fumbles were actually on him especially on the zone read when both players are touching the ball. So, to be consistent with the stats, the last guy with full position gets the turnover whether it's his fault or not.

Its a good question. To clarify, you would have to know if the pass was tipped because the defender made a great play, or did we misread and throw into coverage, did the wideout run the wrong route, or was its catchable ball that came off the hands, was it a bad play design, etc. That just too messy and it's stuff we don't know because we're not in the film room to see.

    Re: CFTV Position Focus: Quarterbacks

Without going back and looking at every single INT that Jantz threw, it's tough to say how many were "his fault".

I remember a few tipped passes, but I also remember some just really horrible throws right to the defender too.

As I said earlier, with all things being equal, I think I'd go with Steele to start the season and see how it goes. But if the coaches feel like Steele is just too prone to making the bad reads and bad throws that lead to INT's, I'd go with Barnett.

If Steele could just play a lot smarter, he'd be great. And if Barnett had the arm strength and the playmaking ability that Steele has, he'd be the clear favorite.

It's a tough call. We can win with either guy if we get the Steele that played against Iowa and the Barnett that played against Okie State, but we can lose all our games too if we get the Steele and Barnett that we saw in the Pinstripe Bowl... that was as ugly of QB play as I've ever witnessed.

    Re: CFTV Position Focus: Quarterbacks

Good analysis! It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It works both ways for and against us. It makes it difficult for other teams defense to scout, but hard for our schemes to be set. Can't wait

Off topic- I know due to TV scheduling and other variables it's hard to say, but when do you all anticipate a start time for the Tulsa game? It seems that about 50% of the country has week 1 start times set.

    Re: CFTV Position Focus: Quarterbacks

We really need one or both of these guys to have a great year. The way I see it, our record this year will directly follow the play of our QB position. Play poorly= less than .500, Inconsistant Play = right at .500, Play great = over .500

Both guys have shown flashes, but we need a play maker every week. Someone the other teams must fear and plan for.

    Comment directed to Chris W.....

I wished that you would have asked Coach Mess. to explain what a "passing game coordinator" is. How are he and Coach Sturdy interacting regarding the passing game plan ?

Good video. It's hard not to go with Steele if he is showing improvement and limiting his TOs. I think we will see Steele starting against Tulsa.

    Re: CFTV Position Focus: Quarterbacks

Good job guys! I like JB a little more but I could live with SJ starting. I feel that we really have 2 guys that are very capable of starting and if something would happen to one I would feel good about the other.

As we get closer, I don't want to count my chickens yet because I was really convinced that Tiller was the starter and I never would have thought JB would have seen the field last year. It is good there are are some nice things about SR because you never know what may happen in a season.
