    Early Morning Thunderstorm

Woke up at 5 to my window being absolutely pounded by rain and wind. Got up opened my front door and it was probably the most ridiculous storm I've ever seen. Dropping buckets or rain and had to have been blowing at a constant 40-50 mph at one point.

As I was about to leave for work, one of the big blasts of thunder set off a car alarm somewhere nearby. Noticed quite a few branches down too.

Lots of thunder here, not a drop of rain. Durn it.

There was one boom of thunder that was probably heard all over the state of Iowa.

You on the west side too? I heard that this morning as I was fixing my flag and getting ready to leave.

    Re: Early Morning Thunderstorm

I live in south Ames where we got 1.4 inches of badly needed rain. The storm began modestly about 4:50 am, and for ten or fifteen minutes it looked like we would get nothing but a sprinkle, but then at about 5:10 or so, the thunder increased, the wind howled, and a very strong downpour began. How long it lasted I cannot say because I went back to sleep. When I got up at 7:45, I checked my gauge and was surprised to see the 1.4.
We badly needed it, but I don't think this amount was widespread; the cells were small and scattered, so south Ames lucked out.

Woke me up in north ames. Which was good because the beer I had drank made me fall asleep on the couch. Probably saved me a sore back.

Feast or Famine. These cells were moving very slowly and just let those downpours add up. I bet probably someone within a couple miles radius from you only saw a few raindrops.

it downpoured in West Ames until about 545. At 510 I looked outside and it honestly looked like a hurricane was starting. The rain was coming down not in drops but in sheets blowing in every direction. I've never seen anything like it!

In north Ames by Ada Hayden we got rain but I'm not sure how much as my daughters broke my rain gauge this spring. I was woken up by thunder and heard rain coming down hard on the roof and windows.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.
