Oklahoma State football play-by-play game notes

Having some holiday fun tonight watching a video of the Iowa State/Oklahoma State football game. Man, we played well, keeping Weeden and Blackmon off the field, and stopping them when they were on the field. This is the first time that I've heard the announcers. Even when we were down 24-7 in the middle of the 3rd quarter, they were saying that there is "something special in the air!"

Does anyone know where I can get a play-by-play game notes with description of yards gained, ball carrier, etc.? Wally had a great defensive gameplan! I would love to be able to see the stats and play-by-play analysis in order to appreciate more fully what we accomplished that night.

    I found one for myself.

Friday, November 18, 2011 Oklahoma St. Cowboys - Iowa St. Cyclones Box Scores, Game Results & Summary - USATODAY.com

It was a special night and we knew we could win. However, it was more than a feeling. We really did play well with tough defense and an offense that kept them off the field.

Blackmon's last catch in the game was for 4 yards with 9:50 left in the 4th Q. In one night, we ruined the BCS and Heisman hopes for Blackmon and Weeden.

    Defense played lights out.

We won the game inspite of the poor play by JB. 51% completion rate 2 ints (including 1 pick 6)and one fumble. Easily could have had a couple more ints.

The official game stats for every game are out on cyclones.com. Go to the football schedule and click on the score of the game.

376 passing yards ranks 5th all time,
460 total yards ranks 3rd all time,
QB'ed the Clones to the biggest win in team history,

but yeah, he sucked that night. (and it was 53% completion)

Here is a link with what you want. Something that really stood out in the play by play is we started that last scoring drive on our own 11, trailing by 7 to the #2 team in the country, with 3:30 on the left in the game and the entire college football world was watching. Thats pressure! But JB (our RsFr QB in his 3rd game) led us on a 12 play 89 yard touchdown drive to tie the game. He was 7-9 for 80 yards the a touchdown pass on that drive. People can point out his mistakes but that took a lot of leadership, heart, guts, and determination. Just like Iowans do, as a Texas native, I take pride in it because I personally know the guy.

This is great. Even more than I was looking for.

How do you find something like this? I found the ESPN site that others have mentioned, but don't know how to get to the stats of other games. admin.xosn.com doesn't give me anything. So, how do you get links to other games?

Indeed, he stepped up. I don't think enough credit is given to the offensive and defensive game plans. The fact that we kept them off the field for 9 minutes of the 1st Q is an easily overlooked factor. And indeed, JB made some great plays, as well as just playing solid ball control offense that was needed to limit OSU's high-powered offense to 17 points in regulation.

And I don't know how they called the OSU guy having possession of the fumble inside the 10, but didn't give Reynolds the TD when he had his hand wrapped around the ball. OSU didn't gain "control" until he was laying on the sideline. JB made an awesome run on that play. Heck, if that call had gone the other way, we would have been tied in the 3rd Q and be poised to take the lead in the 4th Q. But then, the finish wouldn't have been nearly as exciting and memorable! JB truly led us to our greatest win.

Go to Cyclones.com and selected the schedule for whatever year you want. Then click on the link in the Results column and it brings up the Cyclones.com release and has some links below the picture. Click on Statistics. They've got the data for every game going back several years. If you're interested in looking at other schools, many of them do it the same way. And the play-by-play given by the schools DOES differ from what's on ESPN.com a little bit. The official statistics are what is reported by the schools.
