    Cubs Mid Season

I think they're looking better. They have a long ways to go. Travis Wood sure had a great game today and has been playing great lately. Like the youth. Even Soriano has been playing decent. Now let's see if they can get out of the celler by the end of the season.

Soriano's numbers are pretty much in line with Cubs career.

If they can move Soriano and Dempster then the season will be a success on some level.

Only a Cubs fan can classify still having the worst record in the majors after sweeping the 3rd worst team in majors as "fine".

There's a reason the Cubs are the Cubs...

    Re: Cubs Mid Season

To be honest, I'm more of a fan of what is going off of the field, and thinking about the future that Epstein is building. The only question I have is our pitching for the future. But all our fielding will be coming from our farm system.

Outfielders: Sczur, Jackson, Soler, Dunston Jr., Almora, Golden.

Infielders: Baez, Lake, Castro, Rizzo, Candelario all have bright futures and Vitters is finally having a good year. Dan Vogelbach is one of the best power hitting first base prospects in the minors. He is considered the most feared hitter of the 2011 draft class. He will make either a great pinch-hitter or can be used as trade bait for AL teams. (5'11", 288lbs)

Again, pitching is our biggest scare. We got a lot in the draft, but I think a lot of our free agent money will be spent on pitchers over the next few years. And maybe a solid catcher.

Pitching will come via free agency in the upcoming years, they have so little actually on the books in following years that it is almost scary. Once Soriano's $$$ is off the books, it is something like less than 25 million in future contracts.

I thought the same thing for this year as well? Didn't we have something like 40 million to spend, and only got DeJesus?

At only 5 mil for this year and next, they were hoping he would have some trade value eventually. They didnt blow the $$$ this year because they knew they wouldnt be competitive.

    Re: Cubs Mid Season

Nice sweep of the Astros, and a nice one earlier against the Padres. Only thing better would be a series of strong wins against the Cardinals or White Sox.

Rizzo has provided a nice spark to the team. It's good to see the young guys developing. Very optimistic about the lack of contractual commitments. We have a chance to do some nice rebuilding here.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

Yeah, how else can they maintain the "Lovable Loser" motto? God I love the fact your franchise is our cross-town rival...
