Houston Rockets / Chronicle Write UP

"With their second first-round pick, the Rockets selected Iowa State’s Royce White, a powerfully-built power forward with a strong all-around game.

His draft stock was considered lower than his talent would have warranted because of an anxiety disorder that became well known when he was unable to board a flight to visit Kentucky on a recruiting trip. White transferred to Iowa State from Minnesota after he was suspended following a shoplifting charge.,,,"

Just from scanning the comments section it doesn't look like too many Rocket fans are happy with the draft.

They definitely have a lot of forwards. But I think Houston wants to build on their uptempo offense, so, they may be looking more for athleticism that height. Many of the 7 footers can't run up and down the court all day long like the 6 8 kind of guys. And, defensively, not too many post players are going to be able to move Royce down the block, so I think that is where the value comes in with Royce.

I haven't read the article yet, but are their concerns mostly related to the fact that they have something like 7-8 forwards now? I don't follow the NBA at all, but that seems to be the biggest question people have about the direction of the Rockets. Blum answered a lot of my questions in his write up, but if I was a fan of a team that was stockpiling forwards like that, I'd probably be scratching my head a little bit too.

A number of those commenting on the article believe that Houston is looking to make some trades, and some of those forwards are on the trading block.

I did a column for Wide Right Natty Lite last night on Royce's game and fit to the NBA:

The Most Interesting Man In The Draft Belongs To The Houston Rockets - Wide Right & Natty Lite

And a Q&A with The Dream Shake (Houston Rockets SB Nation site) on Royce as well:

Added Perspective On Houston Rockets Draftee Royce White - The Dream Shake

In case that fits anyone's interests.

Re: Houston Rockets / Chronicle Write UP

Folks; I just wanted to share with you another link to what my local news is saying and provide some more message board talk.....Some of you... I really wonder how Iowa State allowed you to enroll.

Back to my Rockets; we have something like 8 forwards and 6 guards and a most of them have less than 2-yrs in the league. Everybody is banging on the GM Morey and his history of draft day busts; also, we need a center badly - tired of small ball and some are disappointed we didn't get it, but *hoping* for a trade.

I hope this is not the case with Royce, because we could use his skills at the 3-spot and I think people will see he Royce can make up for his <perceived> lack of quickness with his other skills; plus, I really don't think RW is as slow as people think. I really want to see RW excel with my Rockets!
