    Opinions on Tire Rack

I'm looking to buy a new set of tires for one of my cars & I'm wondering if anybody has used Tire Rack in the past and what their experience was like. They've got some pretty good deals but I've seen some mixed reviews from past customers online.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

My friend used them once, got the tires in two days. They ship them out of Elkhart or South Bend Indiana I believe... He had no issues whatsoever with them.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

I got some a while ago and had them sent and installed at Earl's in Des Moines. No real problems. The manager told me that he could have matched the price and offered free rotation for the life of the tire. Look around...you can find the same tire prices.

I have been using this place instead. They had better prices, and their warehouse is in Grimes! :) I have had nothing but pleasant experiences with them.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

I bought a set of tires through them once. Was fairly painless and got them mounted locally no problem. I really like they're rating system and the fact you can look up all the reviews by other buyers.

That being said last fall I was going to do the same thing, but ended up buying the tires cheaper at Sears with a sale they were running. I did most of the research on what to buy through Tire Rack and Consumer Reports.

Seems like more people will price match Tire Rack anymore. Worth it to me to buy local if possible.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

It depends on the tire. I've heard of people getting great deals but I priced shopped for my 18" performance tires and it was no cheaper to just buy them at a tire store in town than to buy them online and pay for the mounting. If you have a common tire its probably a good deal but in my case my car has 235/50-18 tires which are high performance tires and by the time I would have paid shipping and mounting it would have been more than what anywhere in town charged for their cheapest tire.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

Use Home - Discount Tire Direct. They will match any price and then beat it. Free shipping, and if you buy wheels too, free mount/balance.

The owner is really big into jeeps and if you say you are a member of jk-forum.com you will get an even bigger discount. Just say your buying tires for the wifes car or something.

I saved about $500 total when I bought mine, I called about 10 local shops and they called me a liar when I told them the price to match lol.

This! I use Tirerack for reviews and pricing. After I find pricing and a tire I like, I'll call around and see if I can find an retail location that will match and give the rotations and free flat repair.

I did this with Big O. They sold me my Kumhos for the same price as Tirerack.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

My wife and I bought bought new tires through Tire Rack last fall and had them shipped and installed at Bill's White Wall downtown. Process was painless and easy. I did some preliminary shopping around and nothing came close to Tire Rack's prices on the mid-level tires we both bought...but we got rebates with both sets that saved us an additional $80 each which local stores did not offer.

Their comparison system is great as others have mentioned. I'd defintiely use them again.

Love Tire Rack. Ordered my tires from there and then took them to Walmart to be installed. Saved well over $150 on a set of four.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

I don't even own A tire, let alone many tires that would necessitate an entire rack.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

I bought a set of four tires for my car and two for my wife's car a year or two ago from them. They were the best prices I could find. Many shops in the Raleigh area actually use them as a supplier. I saved several hundred bucks on the 6 tires and had them installed locally. I had them deliver to my house via UPS - took a couple of days shipping from their Atlanta warehouse to my house in Raleigh, NC.

I would recommend giving them a look. I will probably buy from them again. Tires are expensive enough thought that I will still shop around next time.

My dad is who recommended TireRack. He's had good experiences with them too.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

I've always been able to be their prices locally. I would guess if you looked hard enough at the right spots, you could too. However, I realize that this is also something you just want to get done. In that case go for it. I haven't heard of any bad experiences from there.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

I've found that Tire Rack is generally no less expensive than buying locally, once you factor in shipping and installation. Most of the larger tire chains (Discount Tire, NTB, Tire Kingdom) will be happy to make a deal with you to get your business.
I recently compared a set of four Yokohama Parada Spec-X tires in 245/50 20" size, and Tire Kingdom was about 10% cheaper than Tire Rack when install/valves/etc was factored in.

    Re: Opinions on Tire Rack

I have bought 4 or 5 sets from tirerack over the years. My wife's van needed new tires last month, I speced them all out on TR, and drove over to the local installer before ordering. He matched the price and installed them for free. Shopping around pays in this case.
