    Subwoofers

So I was thinking about putting a couple of sub-woofers in my pickup, but I don't have a whole lot of knowledge regarding them. Anybody have them/recommend them? And if so, where is the best place to look? I have friends that can handle the installation, I would just like to hear what everybody thinks about the brand to get, whether or not to get a certain box, etc.

I'm willing to spend up to around $200, and I don't need anything that will rattle the Earth around me haha. Just looking to beef up the sound and bass.

19.. I'm on the fence about it and could go either way. It's mostly the long trip to and from Ames that makes me want to have a really quality system in my truck.

For 200 dollars you won't be getting much, and you'd still need an amplifier to power them. I have no idea whether you have component or coaxial speakers in your vehicle (I would assume coaxial). You should just look in to just upgrading your existing speakers, there are some brands out there that can provide more of that low bass that might accomplish what you're looking for.

Save your money and just get a quality pair of after market replacement speakers, whether it's 6x9's, 4x10's, or whatever your truck has.

You're probably right. I'll look into some better speakers before I think of anything else. What would you recommend? Bose?

I would be careful with what you buy. Purchasing any of the audiophile brands most likely won't sound as good as they should due to being underpowered by the factory deck. Maybe Focal, or Alpine.. those are decent lower-middle tier brands. Bose would be alright

    Re: Subwoofers

Don't go overboard, your hearing later in life is more important than a loud stereo now. I know several people that can't hear much of anything because they had subs in their car in high school and college.

In my opinion, 6x9's (powered or not) are usually enough for the music to sound good in your car. Everything more is just trying to draw attention.

Bose? You need to do more research.

I like Polk for cheap speakers.

Alpine is what I had in my truck when I was 16, but then they got stolen and I have never even wanted another pair of subs since. Think about it before you decide to do it, think hard.

It was a waste of money for me but I didn't know that until they got stolen.

    Re: Subwoofers

I had one Kicker cvr 12 in my old Eclipse that was a floor model at Best Buy so I got it pretty cheap. But overall its really just better to buy something like some Alpine type R speakers. It'll be much cheaper and you'll still get a good sound.
