Harrison Barnes - Ames Class of 2013

Pure hypothetical thread. Imagine Harrison Barnes is a Senior in High School. This is comparing ISU and CFH's recruiting ability from a few years ago to now.

Can we get a commit from him?

    Rules

    • You know nothing what happened to him at North Carolina because he's only a senior in High School this upcoming year.
    • Again forget his press conference thing as well, we are all falling over him currently
    • Assume he has a visit scheduled or has already visited and he is visiting no one else besides UNC, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, Oklahoma, and ISU.

    My teams: (as of 6/15/14)
    Cleveland Browns: 4-12 - .250
    Cleveland Indians: 34-35 - .493
    Cleveland Cavs: 33-49 - .402
    Iowa State Cyclones (FB): 3-9 - .250
    Iowa State Cyclones (BB): 28-8 - .778

No. He is the next MJ so he has to go to NC regardless of who is coaching at NC and CFH.

Nope. His desire to have a brand would still place him at an elite school.

Yes, I think we can get him. I felt before having ISU on his list was a "hometown" thing and, heck, maybe as a favor for his bud Jr McDermott.

I think the feel/direction of the program is MUCH different than it was a few years back. Now it'd be easy to recruit and say, "your interested in the NBA? I can help make that happen. You want to help make us elite? You can make that happen. You want to be a story everyone talks about (like Hoiberg?)."

I think it still would be a tough get because even if all goes GREAT the next couple years here, the history/tradition of the Dukes of the world is hard to compete against, but I think we have a great shot.

Re: Harrison Barnes - Ames Class of 2013

I really think HB was looking for a way to come to ISU, but just like little McD saw the writing on the wall and committed elsewhere, HB knew that the coaching situation was an unknown; he was nearly as close to the situation as McDermott's own son was.

This is why although I am not happy with how he announced his decision, I can't fault him for the decision he made.

I like to think HB would have been delighted to play Hoiball.

Nope. Iowa State wouldn't advance the HB "brand" like he wanted.

I think Royce White pretty well personified Iowa State as a player he was down to earth and generous both on and off the court. Harrison always felt east coasty and brand conscious to me like his legacy mattered more to him than his play on the court right now.

    sigh. Who cares.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Re: Harrison Barnes - Ames Class of 2013

I think we should all feel better in that, given the same scenario but brought forward to today, a young HB would have made the same exact decision. He stayed on at NC for another year JUST to bring the national championship and build his brand. That didn't work out well. But knowing he had this mentality should help us understand that he was going to a major basketball program that was capable of a national championship regardless of who our coach is or the kind of year we had.

Edit: "It's not us; it's him"
