    Bass healthy, Scales dinged up

Chizik said on the call-in show tonight that Bass is healthy and Scales was dinged up in the Mizzu game. Didn't elaborate on the "injury" to Scales or if he would/wouldn't be available Saturday.

He was pleased to have a 3rd running back rush for over 100 yards this season.

Re: Bass healthy, Scales dinged up

Its nice to see we have 3 running backs capable of running over 100 yards. Too bad we didn't have that luxury the last few years when Hicks got hurt. I have to say it would be nice to have 1 featured back that can stay healthy and get the job done. Although, I guess this isn't a bad situation...

What else was said during the call in show? Anything more on the kicking situation? I know someone said that it didn't sound like we would be seeing much of shaggy anymore...

He basically said our punting sucks.

Matt Purvis the snapper finally got his kinks worked out. I agree about the punting - extremely erratic, but lightyears ahead of kickoffs. I have never seen a We Surrender kickoff play by any college team, but we have run it many times. Too bad we could not do a punt off.

I can't remember if they changed this rule, but I always though that you COULD do that if you wanted, just no one did it of course for good reason...

They also have a We Surrender punt return team. Pathetic special teams all around this year.

Re: Bass healthy, Scales dinged up

If we try an onside kick and fail, it would cost us about 10 yards vs our typical kickoff.

On the other hand, we have no special teams, so why throw something new at them?

Yeah that might be one of those obscure things that nobody ever does, like the drop kick.

    Edit
: Actually, I think the choices on a kickoff are to use a tee or to drop kick it.

I'm guessing Gene is hitting the recruiting trails pretty hard for multiple kickers.
