    Ames Population?

I always thought the population of Ames was around 60k? I'm guessing this number is a little off...

Businesses such as Kohlís and TJ Maxx, which is also coming to Ames, are attracted to the area because of the communityís growing economy. As of 2009, the population of Ames was 129,500 with a mean household income of $59,200.

    Re: Ames Population?

yeah, that's off. I wonder if they are counting all of Story country and maybe Boone as well. That's the only way they're going to get close to that number

    Re: Ames Population?

Yes, for sure. Permanent residents are probably about 40k, then add in the students that called Ames home during the census and I'd guess we're just a little shy of 60k. I'm guessing the 129k number is all of Story County.

Ummm yeah... Story County's population at the last census was around 89,500. The Ames-Boone CSA is only like 115,000...

    Re: Ames Population?

    From wikipedia-

    Population (2010)[1][2]
    • City 58,965
    • Rank 8th in Iowa
    • Density 2,435.2/sq mi (940.2/km2)
    • Metro 89,542 (estimate based on Story County)
This sounds a little better. All of Story County doesn't even come close to 130k.
How did she come up with that number??

There are only 6 counties in Iowa over 100K, and Story is the 9th largest in Iowa.

    Found the problem.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

That median income does seem high. Especially with students

Are full-time students included in median income calculations though? I can understand why they'd count towards population but not towards median income.
