    Villisca Axe Murders

Today is the 100th anniversary of this very grizzly story. There was a good documentary on IPTV this afternoon. Anybody see it?

Sounds like they had 3 main suspects that they could never get enough dirt on to convict.

    Re: Villisca Axe Murders

Im convinced that it was the guy that owned the other dealership in town. That is what the old owners believed too. Im not saying that he is the one that actually did it but he is who had it done.

The main freaky thing to me is the deal about people always saying "the killer most have signaled from here in the pantry (ive witnessed it myself) and when you look out that window, if the trees werent in the way you could see where that guy use to live.

    Re: Villisca Axe Murders

I've read that the morning after it happened townspeople just walked right through the house looking at the bodies before authorities even got there.
To think of what kind of evidence (if there was much that could have helped) that they ruined in the process.

The thought today is that the guy hid in the house while they were at church, and then killed them that night.

EDIT: And yes. You are correct that they let people walk through the crime scene to see what had happened.

Right, but you have to remember that it was 1912 so not to much they could do. All they had was a boot print which could have been anyones and a ham. They think the ham was left because he rubbed it all over himself to throw off the dogs. The dogs followed the scent to the tracks and then lost it. Most think whomever it was jumped the train in the middle of the night.

Didn't the guy eat dinner at the house as well?

Really can't blame the dogs there. I love me some ham. That is all.

Right, the Moores never missed church, easy schedule to figure out. They call it an attic but its more of a crawl space. I swear that its about 20 degrees cooler in that room than it is anywhere else in the house including the basement. The people I know claim the only "demonic" spirit in the house resides in that crawl space. I saw a women that appeared to almost get thrown out of that room.

    Re: Villisca Axe Murders

They recently had an article in the Register about Cold Cases and iowacoldcases.org. Very interesting website....it's somewhat surprising at the grusome murders that happened before 1920 in this state.

And not that it is a surprise, but most of the people in these cold cases were somehow mixed up with people who were not any good. A sign you should be careful who you associate with.

I just remember that because we taught an article about it this fall that made me go "WTF" when I read he ate their bacon after the murders.

So, what we're saying is that the killer:

1: rubbed ham all over himself
2: paused his escape from justice to have some bacon?

If they ever find out who it is, he should go free. Clearly, he has good judgement. Did I mention that I love me some ham? Should have been honest...it really pretty much covers any pork product aside of rinds and chitlins.
