    Staiger Appeal

Are there any grounds for optimism regarding Lucca's appeal? Any history of the NCAA diminishing their initial ruling? Unfortunately, I can't think of any. The NCAA doesn't admit they were wrong too often.

Also, if he ultimately quits school and goes back to Europe because of this does it hurt our Academic Progress Rate (APR) score? I know this APR stuff is very complicated.

    Re: Staiger Appeal

I would think that association with players paid more than $40 a game would be quite common in the offseason. Sounds like the baseball steroid hearings where they wanted some poster childs.

Maybe they need to check out anyone from a foreign country and all players who have a summer job.

Remember that old Bible quote about casting stones? Ye who casts first?

And where in the heck did they get that crew of doofus lawyers they now have with the NCAA.

I would have to guess that they went to Iowa.

Are you kidding? The NCAA lawyers are Kansas grads.

    Re: Staiger Appeal

Ok, here's something. How about all these summer league teams that have sponsors and some even have NBA players on them. For instance the Capitol City league. While our players don't get paid for playing on the team we had Kyle Korver in the league last year. I doubt he was getting paid by the sponsors though but same kind of deal, he's a professional and collegiate and HS players were playing with him on the same team.

This whole situation just really has me frustrated. There are so many similar situations to this that players are still allowed to play but these 2 kids can't? This is even more sticky because this is the first ruling from this new comittee or whatever the NCAA wants to call it for players that played on overseas national teams.

    Re: Staiger Appeal

I thought I read in a separate thread that this same thing happened last year and after appeals the one year was brought down to 4 games. I can live with 4 games and it would make me very happy if we have Lucca before Minnesota.

4 games would be outstanding, but that's hard to believe. The NCAA would really have to admit a mistake to backpedal that much. I'd be happy with the first semester so he's available for conference games and actually stays in the program. Then we don't have to worry about the APR business on which we're already skating on thin ice.

How long do appeals usually take?

I can't believe this is surfacing 1 week before ISU plays their first exhibition game...

I don't know how long they take, but I would think that any games he would miss pending the decision could count towards any suspension length. Kind of a time served thing.

I'm surprised they didn't have a guy parachute in while he's being announced in the starting line-up.

    Re: Staiger Appeal

I've heard 4-5 weeks to be expected for a response. I don't know when that clock started ticking. Maybe a week ago so we're talking a month. Hopefully by then it will be "time served".

    Re: Staiger Appeal

Why not just tell him he can't play until big 12 season or some kind of compromise?
