    5 year review (Facility Thread)

I just came across this and thought it was interesting. It is from 2010 and goes over the projects in planning/construction.

    Here is the article

    Facilities
We have renovated and/or built several facilities the
past fi ve years and each of those projects has impacted
our academic and competitive performance positively.
As we look ahead, it is important to continue investing
in facilities to remain competitive. Our construction
    goals for the future include:

    VOLLEYBALL OFFICES––New coaches’
offi ces and team meeting space in Hilton Coliseum.
Given our volleyball program’s rise to one of the nation’s
premier programs, we believe it is critical that we provide
the necessary infrastructure so that our coaching staff
can continue recruiting the best players in the country.

    HILTON COLISEUM DONOR CLUB––
Develop and construct a donor gathering space in the
coliseum similar to the Jack Trice Club at the football
stadium. Given our signifi cant reliance on donations to
fund the athletics program, it is vital that we identify
opportunities to provide added value to the individuals
who are investing in our program. This new space will
allow our development staff to cultivate and steward
those donors before, during and after athletics events
    in Hilton.

    FOOTBALL STADIUM VIDEOBOARD &
SOUND SYSTEM––Replace the Jack Trice Stadium
video scoreboard and sound system to improve fan
experience and prepare the stadium for the eventual
bowling in of the south end zone.

    COMPLEX FOR TRACK, SOFTBALL &
SOCCER––A new athletics complex on the west side
of campus (near the Towers), which would include an
outdoor track and soccer stadium and an adjoining
softball stadium. This new facility would include public
restrooms, concession stands, locker rooms and storage
facilities for the teams. It would also have a lighted,
multi-purpose fi eld for practice by the marching band.

    FOOTBALL TEAM COMPLEX––Construct
a new building, which would connect directly to the
Bergstrom Indoor Practice Facility, and would house the
football staff offi ces, team locker and meeting rooms and
player development (sports medicine, weight room, etc.)
areas. This complex is needed to meet the ever-growing
space requirements of the football team, provide a
direct connection to the indoor facility during winter
months and allow us to remain nationally competitive
    in recruiting.

    SOUTH END ZONE PROJECT––Enclose
the south end of the football stadium to dramatically
improve the game-day atmosphere, connect the east
and west side concourses, increase seating capacity
to approximately 60,000 seats and enhance football
    recruiting.

The future of our athletics program is very bright.
If we can continue to raise the necessary fi nancial
support from Cyclone fans through increased donations
and ticket sales, we will continue to see outstanding
results from our student-athletes academically and
    competitively
Of this list, all are done (or close to it) except the South end zone. My question is what is the plan after the end zone?

It leaves swimming, tennis and golf as the only sports behind the facilities curve.

I think swimming is getting some minor tweaks over at Beyer. Golf may have some practice area improvements coming. Tennis is in dire need of both indoor and outdoor competition venues.

Lost me at bowling in south endzone....

The last to complete and possibly the most expensive next to the football facility. Another year like last years and with out a doubt that will be the next to get done. With the XII money coming in this is necessary to compete with the other XII schools.

How many people said bowling in the SEZ wasn't going to increase capacity?

They left off all the work on concourses, stadium club and suites at Jack Trice.

Replacing the press box and adding suites maybe ahead of the SEZ.

The linked PDF was from 2010, and the pasted selection in the OP was talking about the future construction goals.

Concourse work was done in 2008 and 2009, and was referenced in a different part of the PDF about completed projects.

The 60,000 is with two levels. One level would actually be a net decrease.

I think the "it won't increase capacity" argument is often confounded with the "it's not all about increasing capacity" argument that I and others have made.

Burn Austin and Norman to the ground.

    Figuratively speaking, of course.

    This.

Though with increasing attendance trends, 60k wouldnt be a huge increase or out of line. Had we had the capacity we probably wouldve sold that out for Iowa and UT last year.

I would imagine when the new SEZ is built, it will include some type of suites or club seating, like Clemson's. With the new videoboard right in your face, I would think those would be in high demand.

A new pressbox should be done after the SEZ project.

A capacity of ~60K is perfect for ISU.

Exactly. That is only a 5000 person increase and we are talking about capacity not seating. Capacity is always more than actual seats. Currently I think we have some 10000 seats less than capacity.

Therefore. as far as appearances there won't be a ton of empty seats.

Press box, more football suites, suites in Hilton, and repair steps to Hilton come to mind.

I just laugh when people count the grass area as seats. Yeah they sell tickets for those areas but how cheesy for a B12 stadium. Doubt the grass realy wows the recruites.
