A year like this will really show what the coaching staff is capable of. A good season will be a huge tribute to recruiting and preparation of upcoming players. Hope it doesn't happen.

Re: Premature Preview: The Iowa Hawkeyes

There were a few things wrong in there. Nico Law will be starting at SS. It was not a close competition between Lowery and Castillo and Castillo may lose out on the third CB spot. Scherff will be starting at LT not Donnal. Boffelli was listed ahead of Blythe at guard on the final two deeps, and three guys weren't mentioned that will get major playing time on the DL. Carl Davis, Steve Bigach, and Joe Gaglione.

"But you know that old thing, live fast, die young? Not my way. Live fast, sure, live too bloody fast sometimes, but die young? Die old. That's the way- not orthodox, I don't live by "the rules" you know." - David Brent

The DC for Iowa is Phil Parker not Preston.

Yes, but wait for page 3 at least.

Re: Premature Preview: The Iowa Hawkeyes

Looking at Iowa's schedule, I see 8-9 wins, even though their D will struggle a bit.

I've seen Big East schedules much less favorable than that.

Are you counting NW and MN as wins?

That's a more favorable outlook than you'll find at HN. I'd take 8 wins in a heartbeat.

You have to work up to it. The standard Iowa procedure is as follows:
Jan - Start reasonable, 7 wins or so
Apr - Reports coming from spring make you hopeful that you can be a darkhorse.
Jun - Doyle is working them hard, and other teams must not be improving. Add a couple wins to that total
Aug - Freshmen showing up. Kirk mentions one of their names. That addition is what is needed to get over the top. 10 wins easy.
Media Day - Look at how big those guys got over the summer. They could sweep the Big10.
Opening week - If Kirk doesn't win a national title with this team he should be fired.

You can't predict a national title out of the gate. It's a process.

Re: Premature Preview: The Iowa Hawkeyes

Overall pretty good info, but you forgot Scherff and MacMillan on the o-line. Scherff is likely the most talented lineman on the roster and will start at LT. MacMillan may be the second most talented lineman and if healthy will push for time at either guard spot as well as the potential to play either tackle position.

Miller is not a walk on, and punter is going to be a big issue for Iowa this season.

They aren't in the preseason top 25 this probably means they are due to overachieve.

Maybe in this year's matchup Kirby should punt for both teams and Meyer should kick for both teams.

Arena league style, trading QBs before the game. I like it.

Iowa will probably win 8 games. ISU fans will claim their schedule sucks and they could have won 9 games with that schedule, Iowa fans will be disappointed because the team lost their will to win, Iowa will go to a mediocre bowl and most likely play a B12 team.

Close, we'd win 10 with Iowa's schedule though.
