Something is definitely wrong here. 2nd best linebackers for Lindy's and 35th for Steele. How in the world do they come up with two way different rankings for the same thing?

Phil Steele said it well himself, "Paul Rhoads is a perfect 3 for 3 in topping my expectations." This is good reason to ignore him this time.

Lindy's went out on a limb. Steele didn't.

I would say that if you look at the depth at LB, its not insane to rate us 35th. Depth is a definite issue for us. But I would still agree that's too low.

I would guess that Lindy's rates us that high just on the strength of Knott and Klein, and doesn't factor in depth as much.

Was half his write-up about McCarney? I think he was more butt-hurt than any Cyclone fan ever was when Mac resigned.

All those magazines are a waste of money. The information is outdated by the time the season starts and they are all just a regurgitation of the same crap every year.

Re: Review: What Phil Steele's preview says about the Cyclones

This was the first year I bought Steele's magazine, I typically go with Lindy's or nothing and rely on CF to get my fix but I was in the airport with time to kill so I bought.

I am really dissapointed, first off I would rather have one less paragraph per team/article than all the stupid abbreviations that he uses, it makes it very hard to read.

I also thought it was a joke that he even mentioned McCarney. All due respect he hasnt been here for 5 fricken seasons, none of his players are here what at all could he have to do with this years team? NOTHING!!!

Ranking the LB's 35th nationally as a group is a joke. If these guys played for an SEC school he would have the pos group ranked top 10 or even top 5. Someone argued earlier about depth and yes right now its hard to know what we have behind AJK and JK but thats not enough to ding them down to the 35th spot.

If that wasnt enough to rank our RB's as the worst in the B12 is a bad call IMO. We may not have a Superstar but the overall depth especially if Shontrelle comes back is enough to think we get at or near the middle of the pack.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

Re: Review: What Phil Steele's preview says about the Cyclones

Why do so many people care about what a person says? What makes his opinion more noteworthy than any other persons in relation to college football? Makes me wish I could just state my opinion and get gobs of money.

I wish someone would create a website that compares actual results with the predictions of these guys. It would also be great if there was a rating system that flushed out the guys who make consistently horrible predictions.

Re: Review: What Phil Steele's preview says about the Cyclones

    Let me guess:

Steele said ISU wouldn't make a bowl game, and then went on to note that ISU has gone to two bowls when he picked losing seasons, and has exceeded his win expectation every year?

Insanity: doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results.

    EDIT:
He called our RBs the worst in the Big 12? Is he nuts?

No hurt feelings here, I hope we stay under rated and over looked. I think we play best as the underdog w/ a chip on our shoulders.

Re: Review: What Phil Steele's preview says about the Cyclones

He list Texas as a surprise team. They have season ending injuries and defections. Their Oline is young and basically in shambles. So even though they may have one of the best defenses in the nation, they will struggle again this year. I actually think ISU as well as many other Big 12 teams have a good chance to beat them this year. Most teams simply can't compete at a high level without at leat a servicable Oline and Texas is in terrible shape there.

He should have simply written "Cyclowns." That would have been just as insightful.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!
