    Oven Fire

So there is a small fire burning in my oven. I assume it will burn itself out, but anyone able to think of any reason to use an extinguisher and make a big mess to have to clean up?

Yes, I'm asking on a message board. Flame away (no pun intended)

How big is the fire? Pics please. Clearly it's not threatening to you or you would't be on here, so I suggest taking some time and get some pictures up.

Get a wet towel, throw it on it.

This might work, but man it seems like a terrible idea.

    Re: Oven Fire

Not sure why I didn't think to take pics. It burned itself out. Wasn't large, maybe took up 1/3 of the oven or so. On the bright side, my oven is very clean now, all the crap in the bottom has completely burned up. Not sure the wet towel would have worked, it's an electric oven and may have shorted out the element or something.

You could probably just call 911 or your local fire station and ask them, Im sure they'd offer you professional help/advise on the best way to put it out yourself, which may be safer than asking random Cyclone fans? Just sayin...

The next step probably involves a hair dryer, but I don't have one of those. I hope that the OP does.

    Re: Oven Fire

When in doubt, smother it with lots of fine grain salt if you have a lot. Unfortunately it will be messy to clean up but it will do the trick.

This is dying quickly. I would like to point out that I did not start the fire, nor did revkah.

    Re: Oven Fire

Smother it with baking powder next time. You'll have a pile of baking powder to clean up afterwards, but it will put the fire out. This is the preferred method for grease fires on the stovetop or grill.

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.
