Big 12 staying at 10 teams, JP and Neinas

On the KC radio station, JP and Neinas said the Big 12 is staying at 10 for the forseeable future. With a four team Championship coming, the other conferences may be wondering "what kind of a mouse-trap did we build" with a large conference and division playoff. the path to the Championship will be complicated for other conferences. The also said that STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE must be considered in any Championship set up. Neinas said outside consultants were hired to look at two best teams to add when TCU and WV came in, it was not just by chance. And I suspect, other than a Notre Dame, the Big 12 will have status quo for sometime to come. JP says it's in a great position.

Yes and Missouri said they were staying in the big 12 right up until the point they left the big 12. Still not buying that we are not expanding to 12 teams just to improve the power position.

You might be right, but the Big 12 is sure sitting on the cat birds seat right now. In a great position.

    One of two things...

Either the Big 12 Conference has a great poker face and is lying to our face (I'm not a fan of this) or the AD's are not as forward thinking as I once thought. With 10 teams the conference is vulnerable in my opinion.

Same can be said for conference realignment.

The "foreseeable future" could be for the next 48 hours. When it comes to conference realignment the entire process is unforeseen. So yeah, I don't take much stock into the statement.

They can't say from a legal standpoint "ya we're poaching team ****" I'm pretty sure that's tampering.

Re: Big 12 staying at 10 teams, JP and Neinas

I believe them when they say the conference likes 10 teams. The Pac 12 screwed itself by adding CU and Utah. It was just as valuable without them, and now the money has to be split by 12. The SEC screwed itself with MO and aTm as CBS won't pay any more money for the extras. And now the biggies in the conference want unequal sharing. The ACC is not in a good position for a playoff with a weak strength of schedule. Yet in all of this, the Big 12 is the good guy for keeping access open to all. And Notre Dame will have to earn it way in by having a tough schedule and winning their games. I see the logic for the Big 12. This makes it MORE solid, not less. Fun to watch!! And if ND wants a conference, the Big 12 is their real only home.

Sounds like they stuttered when asked if they were staying at 10 teams.

Ding ding! This is great 'cover your ***' PR. I read the words 'foreseeable future' and immediately think 'well that is a true statement that will have a large portion of people thinking nothing is happening but it also means it could happen tomorrow'.

12 > 10. Adds security to the conference and extra revenue from the Championship game. Did you guys know that Iowa State would make 2 million a year if there was a championship game whether we would ever play in it or not? That's why the Big Ten added Nebraska.
