If there is a BIG team in the top 10, the list is not legit. The BIG is somewhere between the ACC and Big East.

What was our SOS last year. Also surprised to see ND at the top. My impression was that they usually play a few good teams and a pretty soft schedule the rest of the way.

They could have saved themselves some time and just listed the ten Big 12 schools. That's how it ended up last year.

#2 last year. Kansas was #1...because they were the only Big 12 team that didn't get to play Kansas.

Unfortunately this argument holds merit. I think ISU would make an annual top 10 SOS most years. The good thing for the fans is that we have quality opponents on the schedule and with CPR we can always be optimistic that any given game is winnable. I would rather be in the top 10 SOS than the bottom 10, for sure.

Usually, but this year its pretty easy to see why ND are #1 at this point.

    2012 Schedule

    Navy Midshipmen (London)
    Purdue
    At Michigan State
    Michigan
    Miami (Chicago)
    Stanford
    BYU
    At Oklahoma
    Pitt
    At Boston College
    Wake Forest
    At USC

Pretty tough, and while not all of them are top tier teams, they don't have absolutely terrible FCS teams or anything like that

Right now I think 5-6 were in the preseason top 25

the navy game is in dublin, not london

and their schedule is by far the toughest in the country this year...not a single gimme game on it

That is a very tough schedule for ND. I can see why they're listed #1

As long as the Big 12 stays at 10 teams and plays a true round robin ISU is going to have a top 10 schedule every year. Even adding FSU and Clemson in the mix, ISU will likely never have a schedule outside the top 20 in strength ever again.

Just half a point from #4. Hopefully Tulsa is half a point down from Uconn (and at home) and Western Ill is a couple steps below Uni.
