Talking about conference realignment has become a whole lot more fun for those associated with Iowa State athletics.
For the last two years, discussing the Big 12 Conference meant speculating on defections and an unstable future. Now ISU athletic director Jamie Pollard can’t help but grin when thinking about the league’s prosperity.
“The difference one year makes,” Pollard said. “It’s having an island people want to be on versus having an island people want off.”
The suddenly positive state of the Big 12 was the central theme of the sixth-annual Cyclone Tailgate Tour, which made a two-hour stop Tuesday evening at the Henry Doorly Zoo. Along with Pollard, travelers included coaches Paul Rhoads (football), Fred Hoiberg (men’s basketball), Bill Fennelly (women’s basketball), Kevin Jackson (wrestling) and Christy Johnson-Lynch (volleyball).
