    Martensdale-St Mary's streak over

Say what you will about the East side, but they sure know summer sports:

    Re: Martensdale-St Mary's streak over

I'm an East alum and have mixed feelings about this. Happy for the East kids to go down to MSM and pick up a big win on the road, but it's kind of bizarre that one of the biggest schools in the state was playing a 1A school...a very good 1A school, but still a 1A school.

Haha. MSM's record is bs. They mostly played a bunch of junky 1a teams who barely have enough guys to field a team.

I'm also an East alum, and hear what you're saying. MSM won 88 straight though, and I've seen them play a few times over the last couple years. Not sure how old you are, but they remind me, every year, of the Indianola teams in the late 90's (Pete Blake, Ryan and Justin Gripp). They certainly don't 'look' like a 1A school.

Just like winning back-to-back State Titles is BS too, right?

One of the kids from my 3A high school transfered to MSM for baseball. He now has a schollie to Illinios for next Fall.

Umm.. nope - they were really good.

Played for a good 1-A school and we would consistently beat 2-3 4-A schools a year. There is some really, really good 1-A baseball in Iowa (would say even better than 2-A)

Martinsdale, Kee, Newman, Granville, Gehlen, Remsen... some pretty good history there. Top heavy, but some really good tradition.

Completely agree, especially when you factor in a dominant pitcher. Speaking of good pitching, how about East's Colby Carmichael tonight. 7 innings, 2 hits, 14ks...and he's a sophomore. That stat line is unofficial, but I'm pretty sure several of MSM's runs were unearned due to a few errors.

    Re: Martensdale-St Mary's streak over

Not trying to say they were bad. They obviously had some good teams to win 88 in a row. And some solid players like westphal, ect. But if 1a baseball talent level is anything like 8man football and 1 basketball compared to 4a, 3a then the talent level is pretty poor at the 1a level

Whys it matter where the talent level is? Still impressive plus they have been playing 2A, 3A, and 4A schools along the way. Is a record win streak for UNI not impressive because they are FCS?

Please watch a 1-A championship sometime before you bash it... good players, just hard to field 9 great players. Hate to break it to you, but once you step out of Iowa you will realize that your 4-A accomplishments aint worth **** either... its just high school, who cares.

Good to see them lose, especially with the recruiting that goes on there. Not to mention the classless fans. I really didn't care whether this team won or lost...until I saw their "fans" booing the opposing teams at the state tournament last year.

They still went out every game and beat the other team. There is a lot to be said in that, especially baseball, where one bad day and everything seems to go wrong. The streak is frankly remarkable to say the least.

Hey bud. I've played for a 1a and 4a highschools so i do know what im talking about. Theres a big difference. Big schools have a larger talent field to pick from and more resources. It's a fact. big schools are much more developed than small schools 90% of the time.

And I get that hs sports don't matter. I learned that about a week after we lost at state in basketball. Haha

wow, lots of fail here. My school (1A) has 3 players playing at the collegiate level. Lots of talent in 1A...you can argue last year we were better then 2A.1A baseball is completely different from 8 man football as well.

    Re: Martensdale-St Mary's streak over

Does Martensdale-St. Mary's still play on a softball field? That field was really small. But...winning that many games in a row on any field in any class is impressive.
