    Incoming Freshman

Hey guys I've been a lifelong Cyclone fan and just graduated high school and proud to say that I will be enrolling at Iowa State this fall. Just wondering if I could get some advice or input on what to expect with everything. I live about 45 minutes from Ames and have been to many sporting events and visited last fall so I know what to expect with that stuff but feel free to post some good advice or whatever. Thanks!

Great, more Freshmen to get in my way this fall.

Also, when they give you a lanyard, a cardholder, and a map at the beginning of the year, throw those away immediately. It's the number one way to out yourself as a freshman.

On a lighter note, congratulations, I'm sure you'll love Iowa State. It's a great place to go to school!

    Re: Incoming Freshman

The most important thing is to meet as many new people as possible. Make connections and find a good group of friends; the friends you make in college are the ones that remain your friends after you graduate.

Don't go home on the weekends

Strike a good balance between academics and your social life. Having fun is an important part of college; just make sure you have the rest of your **** in order. Also find something to get involved in.

I'm disappointed you won't get to experience the greatness that was the Just Sayin's

Enjoy short shorts in the fall, yoga pants in the winter, and the sweet re-emergence of the short shorts in the spring

I'm a little nervous about room assignments, I put down a random in MWL. Anyone have experience with a random roommate? I was told that it could be the best desicion I've made, especialy since it's in MWL

It will be hit or miss. One of my brothers' roommate quit at Labor Day, the other brother's roommate was okay, and my first roommate was a ******* slob POS (I changed rooms ASAP). Many of my friends had good roommates.

Could be the best decision, could be not a good fit. My roommate freshman year was turrible, but other people I met on my floor became my roommates for the last 2 years. As someone else said, get to know as many people as possible.

I never understood the lanyard part. I have an ISU lanyard, but it isn't the one they give you, and I always have used it. I would probably lose my car keys if they didn't have a big clothe strip attached to them. I'm going into my junior year with no freshman-lanyard accusations. Oh well...

As for advice... Never assume a practice test covers everything you need to know, eat at conversations instead of seasons as often as possible, do not be scared to ask your professor for help, never assume that just because your beer is in a backpack you will be safe, meet a tri-Delt or Chi-O and get to know as many as possible, and meet as many people as possible in your first few months.

Also, enjoy every day, week, etc. as much as you can. I can't believe how fast college has gone already. It seems like yesterday that I was moving into 7th floor Larch and meeting my best friends I have today. All of a sudden I'm starting my junior year. Crazy.

    +1

I'm having an extremely hard time coming to terms with the fact that I'm a college senior now.

    Re: Incoming Freshman

Find out who in your major/classes has the best test bank and then buy them beer to let you photocopy the whole stash.

(This can serve you well through Graduate school too.)
