That is great to hear. I wish I would have went to both, but had a conflict tonight.

Excellent news, it is a cyclONE nation!

Waterloo had a crazy good turnout as well. I've gone every year and it was standing room only this year!

Nice barb at the Huskers ------ JP had all the kids cheer "BIG XII COUNTRY" at the close of the evening and gave out mini-Royce Jerseys.

I'm so sad I missed this, it was even on my calendar. My hawk GF even agreed to wear her clones jersey to get pictures with freddy and cpr. this could have been the event to turn her!

Rhoads autographed my Nebraska/ISU ticket from the 9-7 win. I pleased with that.

    Re: Omaha tailgate tour packed

    A few comments:

JP said the all athletes had a 2.96 GPA. ISU is only 1 of 11 schools in the country to play in a bowl game, and have mbb, wbb and vb make the NCAA tournments.

Prez Leath said he had work to do the AD has a higher GPA then the student body. Also said they are expecting 31,000+ students this fall with 68% from Iowa.

My concerns about the new Prez supporting athletics as well as Prez Geoffroy are gone. He said that Athletics is the front door to the university and most peoples impressions of a university are how well there athletic programs preform.

His comments in Atlantic were that he was in full support. Jamie also said he was relieved to see his commitment to athletics.

I think Leath will be in full support of ISU, but I see his efforts focusing on affordable quality education, and research that provides value via patents, application, and extension. Just my feel that I took from Atlantic and Visions article.

I was also surprised when he said how much of his time is spent on conference issues.

    Re: Omaha tailgate tour packed

Got Rhoads and Hoiberg's autographs on a hat tonight, most approachable guys ever. Hoiberg smirked when I asked him about another big body coming soon to Ames, said "well we do have that one spot to give away". I love JP's confidence when speaking about big change soon, busy times ahead and being in the best conference possible for all sports.

He's no dummy; this is exactly what grantmakers want to see universities doing these days in order to give them money. Leath knows from experience heading up sponsored research at a Public Ivy. The Board of Regents made a brilliant hire, IMHO.

My sense from our discussions is that upgrades to faculty are high on the list -- top even.

    Re: Omaha tailgate tour packed

Reading about these evening outings after the boring one hour noon stop in Bettendorf makes me feel envious ... and a bit snubbed. It's the Quad Cities. Three hundred thousand plus people with a decent number of ISU alums. We had a really good turnout at last year's evening event. The metro schools produce D1 caliber athletes. I don't get it. It's like ISU has decided to let EIU own eastern Iowa.
