I called CenturyLink last night and complained about my internet service being down again and down way more than it is up lately. They promptly sent me the below email. Does anyone see any humor in all of this???

It's like that at work - IT can't do anything without a Help Desk ticket. How do you create one? Send an email to xxxx@xxx.com. So if your computer crashed and you need a new one...

To be fair if my home internet was down there is still email on my cell phone, ipad at Starbucks, office computer, yada yada. I wouldn't miss an email just because my home internet is down.

Yeah, well, no Wildcat living in Ames wants some nut to burn his house down just because he is a KSU grad. CW will tell you that I am really not a bad guy.

    Dear Mr. Ames,

There is no space between Boone and Cy. Mr. BooneCy will suffice, I don't want to reveal my first name due to privacy. TMZ would quickly discover my location.

    Thank you

    Re: CenturyLink Intelligence

Hey Steve.....why am I paying for 7mbps service (which was the agreed upon speed and price for the 12 months) when I am only getting 3mbps out here in Clive? I've been told the equipment out here in this brand new development doesn't support the higher speed, yet it was sold to me.

Already tried e-mailing CLink and got a bunch of canned verbiage as a response. Blah.

I share iowa_wildcat's frustration not only on the above issue I described, but his as well regarding outages. I understand why my DirecTV service goes out during rainstorms, but I don't understand why my wired DSL connection goes down during rain. Makes little sense.

    Re: CenturyLink Intelligence

I had issues over this past weekend. After calling and be asked for account information 3 times I was transferred to some technical rep with a bad connection. It went on forever asking me the most basic questions... Wasting my time.

They then couldn't schedule me for 4 days and told me I had to be at the house and the only hours were between 8-5. They went on to tell me that if the issue was in the house I needed to pay for the service call. So I told them if the problem was on the outside of my house they had to pay me for my time away from work based on my salary rate per hour. They told me they couldn't do that. I told them they had to pay me, fix it without me being there, or cancel my service with all three being the next day. The tech didn't have a manager to speak with and said I would get call back the following day. I said those were my conditions and I would await their call. On Monday at 8:30 am I got the call telling me they already had someone at my house fixing the problem. When I got home it was working.

I also got this exact same e-mail.

While glad they fixed it, it's upsetting that I had to make the ultimatum and then find out they really didn't need me there nor did they not have the ability to do for 4 days. I told the tech several times on the phone when a company tells me that can't do something that means they choose not to because my business isn't important to them. If it was, then they would do differently, period. Again, glad they fixed it but it goes to show their flaws and lack of customer support and geniune concern.

    Re: CenturyLink Intelligence

My only complaint with Century Link has been the fact that we are still stuck with 1.5Mbps. Have been for a long time... Back in the mid 2000s they (Qwest) sent out advertisements saying 7Mbps was coming soon. Now they have places with up to 40Mbps, and we're still stuck with 1.5Mbps. Live in south Ames. Every time we have called they respond that they do not know when faster internet will be available in different areas. 1.5 used to be fast enough, but now with Netflix, and different people streaming different shows at the same time it doesn't work.

    Re: CenturyLink Intelligence

Good news! CenturyLink fixed the problem which turned out to be a malfunctioning port a few blocks away. The technician was patient and checked out all sorts of readings. It was difficult to find because the problem was intermittent. I am now getting what I am paying for and am delighted.
