    Iowa Golden Retriever Breeder

Our 14 year old Golden Retriever had to be put down last December and we're looking for another this spring. Several folks, including Chris Williams, had recommended Grams Golden Retrievers but they have shut their business down and moved their dogs out of state.

Anybody have any other local Golden breeders to recommend?

Sorry for your loss! Had the exact same situation happen to our family a couple year ago. Loved our Golden Retriever Sadie! Cant' wait to get my own place and get a Golden Retriever puppy.

Golden Retrievers are awesome. One of my top 3 favorite breeds of dog along with Border Collies and Australian Shepards

    Re: Iowa Golden Retriever Breeder

My Aunt used to raise them but I checked and she doesnt have them anymore.

As you know Goldens are great dogs. May parents have two and they are the best.

Sorry for your loss and good luck with the search!!

The only one I've ever heard of is in the Fonda area. I'll see if I can find his card.

Why go to a breeder when there are literally thousands of dogs that need a good home? You could even go to a Golden shelter. I can't believe anyone would go pay a shiat ton of $$$ to further encourage breeders to breed more dogs for profit when there are so many good dogs who may be put down b/c they can't find a home. You are part of the problem.

To each his own, friend. For some people, a shelter dog would be great. For others, a purebred dog of a specific breed meant for a specific task is ideal. One size does not fit all in this instance.

    • Go to the RAGOM.ORG webpage. (Retreive a Golden of Minnesota....has fosters/placements in Iowa, Minn, S. Dakota). Great place to get PB or mixed breed Golden. We adopted a wonderful 3 year old a couple of years ago.

    Re: Iowa Golden Retriever Breeder

    Goldens are fantastic.

We got Paisley from Gram's Goldens exactly a year ago yesterday. Her story was a little bit different. She did come from a breeder but Paisley was born with a heart condition. We didn't know exactly how bad it was but when we contacted the breeder, she was the only pup in the litter without a home and by this point, it was starting to look like she wouldn't ever get one due to her heart.

Being that my wife is a vet, we figured that if she should go anywhere, it should be home with us.

The good news is that Paisley grew out of the issue and she's a healthy one-year old dog with more energy than we sometimes know what to do with!

I agree with the posts above about rescuing too. In fact, we've thought about doing this to give Paisley a playmate.

    Re: Iowa Golden Retriever Breeder

I agree with BlackHawk's sentiment, just maybe not the delivery in the message. There are so many wonderful animals that need homes and it's a shame that breeders have to exist. I understand that there are special breeds that are great for hunting... and I'm not sure why else actually. But I'm pretty sure that there are many dogs out there that could be trained to do anything.

All that "high horse" stuff said, when you want a specific type of dog, and you want to know their past, the shelter becomes a difficult place to find what you want. We've adopted all five of our animals that we've had over the years and wouldn't trade one of them. But every one of them took a long time to find one that fit our family's personality.

Good luck to you, Goldens are a special breed indeed.

why would you have a child when there are so many more children that need to be adopted?

why do you pick a gas car instead of a green car if there are a lot more better for environment options? or simply just take the bus instead of owning a car.

why do you eat unhealthy food when there are a lot more expensive healthy options? if everyone stopped eating crap those food places would get shut down and i would have more healthy options.

Adopting a dog is a great choice, but not the only choice. He wants a golden puppy to watch it grow to his family, if he adopts, one he may not get a 100% golden.

ps the problem isnt people buying puppies from breeders, the problem is people letting dogs have puppies and then abandoning them, or someone buying a puppy and then taking it too a shelter because they dont want to take care of it. Those people are the only problems.
