    Tailgate Tour Begins

Just got back from the first night stop of the Cyclone Tailgate Tour in Dubuque. Great time at the Grand Harbor Convention Center on the beautiful banks of the Mississippi River! Great to see so many people turn out and awesome to see the strong showing of support! John Walters hosted a discussion with coaches KJ, KJ-L, BF, FH and PR! JP also spoke. All kids came up and sang Happy Birthday to CBF and all got a free bb jersey! Those wondering about taking kids...YES! Several inflatables & games, pom poms, autographs, very kid-friendly. And for you adults...beer, hot dogs, pizza, and cheerleaders! Coaches very willing to just chat or take photo-ops. So fired up now, I wish the sports seasons were already starting! Proud to be a Cyclone!

    Re: Tailgate Tour Begins

I was at the Ottumwa event today as well. Had a blast...some of my experience:

JP - It's in ISU's best interest to stay at 10 for the conference. All the smoke coming from FSU is all on their end. Not totally opposed to expansion but you can tell he's rooting for us to stay at 10.

Freddy - guy has absolutley no ego. What's weird is when he talks to you one on one it's just like he talks to John Walters on the tv show...it's not bad but kind of made me laugh. You can tell he really likes Clyburn and Gibson.

Rhoads - first time I ever met him...the dude could not be any more genuine and nice. I can't imagine how a recruit or their parents could say no to the guy. If we can keep the guy for another 5 years we'll be in amazing shape. I couldn't help but tell him once we started talking football how bad I wanted us to beat KSU...he just smiled and said "you don't have to tell me"...got a pic with him.

Also, I forgot my OSU towell to have him sign and I feel like an idiot.

From CKJ on the addition of West Virginia to the Big XII in wrestling.."We're gonna have to smack 'em around a little"! Loved that! With all of the wrestling returnees, hope we do!

Really? I thought it was better if the Big 12 got back to 12 teams that way we get a cupcake back on the FB schedule and make it easier to get to 8 or 9 wins yearly. What is JP's reasoning for thinking ISU's best interest for conf to stay at 10?

There is no guarantee we'd get that cupcake back. Conferences are going to 9 games for $$$$$$.

And we're getting the money for a conference championship game without actually playing it so there's no guarantee it would yield more. The conference would obviously hope so but the networks may have something else to say.

    Re: Tailgate Tour Begins

I haven't made it since they started it in '07.. going to the Waterloo stop tomorrow. Any tips on what time to get there? Starts at 530 here.

I have a mini helmet, my OSU (front row) tix to be autographed and I'd like a photo with CPR/Fred, would they allow all that?

Heads up to anyone traveling from out of town, we got a LOTTT of traffic from 380 all the way through 20 in Evansdale, plan accordingly.

Does Cy the mascot come to these things? The daughter really wants to meet Cy and doesn't want to wait until football season to do it. =p

im taking my g/f who is a Husker grad and Husker nutjob. I plan to ask CPR what I should do about it during the q/a portion of the evening. She doesnt even know the difference in Iowa and ISU so it should be funny to me. I hope she learns a little bit about quality coaching staffs, she is shocked that the coaches are willing to meet with and especially talk to fans.

Heading to the CR one tonight. I think this one will be a lot different in the Kernels stadium than last year's inside the 5 seasons center. Hope I still win a prize haha

This sounds like a good way to lose a girlfriend. Since she is such a Husker fan, it might be okay.

I'll bet CPR gives you a diplomatic answer, such as "Buy an extra season ticket for her and let the product on the field win her over."

I hope he says, "She looks pretty enough, but must not be very smart, so make sure you don't marry her!"

As long as you are brave enough to ask, they will do it. Plenty of people take pictures and ask for autographs. It's great, see you there tomorrow!

    Re: Tailgate Tour Begins

Went to the CR event tonight. I liked it better than the convention center in the past. It helped that the weather was good. Kids got autographs, new clothes for school and kids got free basketball t's at the end of the program. My daughter starts middle school soccer next year so it was a great experience for her to meet 5 girls on the ISU soccer team. All I can say is we are so lucky to have an athletic program that does this. I talked it up with my third graders today and all they could think was, "Why don't the Hawks do this???"
