Omaha to Chicago (Via Des Moines) Train

Would really like to see this happen. Curious what other people think of the plan as well.

I have a feeling it would lose money and be too expensive.

It seems pointless. For mass transit we already have options like megabus which gets there cheaper and faster than the trains, with much better ability to deal with varying demand.

I would do this. Sounds like fun.

I would use this probably twice a year on average. I would rather see transportation money go somewhere else.

I'd pay extra money to take a train over a long bus ride, even if it took longer. I can't stand long bus rides.

I doubt I would ever use it. I will agree DOT money needs to be spent elsewhere.

Fine if you would spend extra on it, but tax dollars shouldnt be wasted on it.

Re: Omaha to Chicago (Via Des Moines) Train

we love the train as a family -- worth the extra money every time. When we lived in Chicago and STL took it several times for a long week-end. Just great fun,....so much better with kids to be able to get up, walk around, go to the dining car, big comfortable seats --- the train betwen Chicago and STL is almost always full and they have bus service (which we will NOT do btw) -- really hope it happens.

Sounds like it will be faster than bus... 3 1/2 hrs to Chicago from Des Moines.

Would definitely use this. Faster and more comfortable then bus service, cheaper than a flight to chicago, plus it'd fun.

Unless this is substantially different than the other articles ive seen about the plan the last couple years, all the others had said much, much slower. that it could go 'up to 100mph' but it would average 60ish iirc.

From the Chamber meeting I went to in Omaha recently, you're both right. Like Europe there would be express trains with very few stops and transits with many more stops. That is what really decides the timing...... express train would be much closer to 100 mph average while transits down near 60 mph
