GOLF HELP: How do you fix a slice?

This is a question for all you golf gurus. Since I no longer have a baseball swing to mess up, I want to get more into golfing. The only problem is that golfing isn't mush fun when you cant hit the ball straight. So, how do you fix a slice?

Slow down your swing and grip tighter with the left hand (if you're right handed).

Re: GOLF HELP: How do you fix a slice?

I used to have a huge slice and could never get it fixed.
After 2 minor tweaks, my slice is gone and 75% of the time I am hitting long, straight shots.

The first was my back swing. I was breaking my wrists immediately after bringing the club head back. Now, I am keeping my wrists locked awhile longer which really engages the larger muscles (shoulders, back, core) needed to swing the club.

The second was rotating my wrists through, ensuring that my club face is closed upon contact. I just needed to rotate my right hand through the shot, before I wasn't doing that so it left my club face open on contact.

Those 2 simple things fixed my drive.

I'm no golf expert and no instructor and those things may or may not help you, but its worth a try when you're at the range.

Re: GOLF HELP: How do you fix a slice?

I think has to do with how you bring the club down to the ball as you're swinging. If your arms are extended fully all the way around and connect with the ball directly from behind, the slicing or hooking should disappear. When I used to golf a lot, I'd work on this with mixed results. The best way to see if that's where your golfing issues are coming from is to have a pro watch your swing. They can either verify that's what's wrong or give you suggestions as to what else may be happening.

Feel free to say otherwise, but this is what my grandfather always told me. When I was able to do what he was telling me, the slicing problem usually went away.

Re: GOLF HELP: How do you fix a slice?

    Great tips, keep em coming!

I have been trying to rotate my wrists, but that hasn't seemed to help much. I guess it is just something that will come with time.

Go to the driving range. When you hit your driver, really over-exaggerate rolling your wrists through. You should be rolling them so much that the ball begins to hook. After you do this for a while you should be able to find the happy medium between hook and slice fairly easily.

The grip is very important. Make sure your grip is more in the fingers, not the palms of you hands. Like throwing a ball, you can't throw a fastball with the ball in the palm of your hand.

Secondly, make sure you can see at least 2 knuckles on your left hand.

I just made that adjustment a few weeks ago and made a HUGE difference.

Between that and the following grip, my driver slice is gone. Of course, now I hook my irons.

If all else fails put vaseline on the club face.

So choke down on the club, grip it correctly, & rotate my wrists. Sounds easy enough!
