ISU coaching salaries, athletics budgets, and the gridiron club

Crunching numbers here, and this thread is going to be all over the place...

ISU's approved budget for 2012 by comparison to the Big 12 in 2005 would have ranked ISU.....at 3rd in the conference in total budget for 2005. Texas was over 70 million in 2005, and Nebraska at that time was the only other big 12 school to allocate over 50 million in athletics budget. Things have obviously ramped-up across the conference since then, but ISU's leap forward is pretty impressive. Also I don't know how much of the budget is directed towards football this year either.

See the 2005 Big 12 totals here. Big XII: The haves & have nots : Fanblogs College Football Blog

Ive done a little googling, but I'm yet to find a 2011 list of Big 12 budgets. I'm interested to see how its changed across the board.

Did find some info out there on ISU's coaching salaries. I believe these figures are from 2004.....possibly 2005.
    Dan McCarney - 1,035,000
    Tony Alford - 173,333.00
    Barney Cotton - 171,700.00
    John Skladany - 174,400.00
    Chris Ash - 96,400.00
    Mike Nelson - 118,570.00
    Todd Fitch - 134,229.00
    Mike Grant - 110,900.00
    Matt McGettigan - 103,911.00
    Brian Schneider - 42,500.00
    Shawn Simms - 35,966.00
    Don Knock - 82,486.00
    Scot Knock - 30,591.00
    Chris Ruf - 27,810.00
    Mike Motl - 48,500.00
    Erik Link - 4,500.00

ISU assistant salaries from 2010 season
    Wally Burnham $300,000
    Tom Herman $300,000
    Bill Bleil $150,000
    Bobby Elliott $150,000
    Curtis Bray $120,000
    Courtney Messingham $120,000
    Kenith Pope $120,000
    Shane Burnham $100,000
    Luke Wells $100,000

This link here Big 12, Big Ten assistant football coaching salaries
shows ISU was fairly competitive in terms of paying their top assistants. obviously Texas and OU paid considerably more for their coordinators, but ISU was in the ball park with most of the conference...and not getting embarrassed in terms of the salary that was paid.

Rhoads top assistants in 2010 were making nearly double what Dan's did in 04/05...and Rhoads within 5 years will be making double of what Dan did in his final year. If I'm not mistaken, when Rhoads got his new contract last December his assistants got to split up another 300K or so. Those figures may be off by quite a bit by now.

This link here shows the overall assistants pay in the Big 12 from 2005. ISU was near the bottom obviously.

Again, I would love to see how it looks today. I'd have to assume TCU and WVU are near the bottom in assistant pay just based on their previous conference affiliations, and presumably lower budgets....although WVU does have a considerably larger stadium capacity.

Gridiron club...in its infancy raised around 200K when coach Mac was still here. Since then, the GC has pumped nearly a million into the football program. While I know the cyclone club has well over 3K more donors than in Mac's final years, the GC is slow to gain new members. Hopefully membership can increase substantially over the next few years.

Wife and I both joined the Gridiron and Cyclone Club within this last year. Jamie and ISU need to know we are behind them. We are always going to be one of the smaller guys on the block so every dollar helps.
After all the conference realignment, I've been wanting to make it even more known to ISU that we are "All In".

Well done gentlemen! Thanks for your donations. My wife and I and my parents all bumped up our donations this year to get moved a little closer to the action at the tailgates. Looking forward to Sept. 1!!
