Re: TAM Byrne Resigns - Was Opposed to SEC Move

WBB coach knows what's going to happen:

Coach Gary Blair Upset to See Byrne Go
"Whoever we hire it better not be from the good ole boy system. It better be somebody like a Bill Byrne or Billy Gillispie or a Pat Henry. Sometimes you've got to go out of your comfort zone," said Blair.

I have a feeling Blair will be looking to make a move soon.

Re: TAM Byrne Resigns - Was Opposed to SEC Move

    Did anyone find this interesting?

Byrne's contract was to expire in August 2013. He will become a special adviser to A&M President R. Bowen Loftin, who is traveling overseas.
Loftin, in a conference call from Qatar, disputed Byrne's account of the Big 12 departure process, saying he spoke with Byrne frequently about it and considered his opinions.

It's to fulfill his contract period rather than firing him and giving a buyout. The public here is really ****** about money being spent on athletics.

I figured it might have been something along these lines but I didn't know if he was retiring that he would still have a buyout.

Yeah, it came up multiple times last summer that the coaches wanted to stay in the big 12. I would imagine that included Blair.

It's more "vacating" his current position than it is "retiring".

Yes one of the sad truths of college athletics.

No, I have seen that before. They have no grounds to outright fire him, but don't want him as AD either. He is being "promoted out of the way", to a useless job for one year.

That's why we'll never have baseball (as pointed out in numerous threads).

And, yes, the facility if beautiful. One of the best looking buildings in town.
