Grant of TV rights extended to 13 years

Sounds like the grant of rights has been or will be soon extended to 13 years in conjunction with a new TV deal...

    ------

Perhaps of bigger note, however, is Luck's characterization of the Big 12 gathering, which included groupings of the football and men's and women's basketball coaches.

"There's a very good spirit within the Big 12," Luck said. "Not only is there stability, but a granting of [television] rights for 13 years. That's an eternity in our business. "We felt welcome. There's a real good vibe across the board."

That should be the case if the granting of rights has been or will be pushed to 13 years. You may recall the Big 12 Conference Board of Directors agreed to a minimum of six years late last year.

It's significant because a long-term grant of media rights all but makes it impossible for schools to bolt.

If it wasn't clear before, it is now...the BigXII, and ISU, are saved.

Listening to the new Commish's presser right now and it's still 6 years. That number could be extended with a media contract he said.

Announce the extension after two teams are added and a new media contract is signed, perhaps?

Thanks for the clarification. On the ball, as usual.

That would be amazing. I hope that's how it works.

I'll miss the annual drama of survival, but I can learn to adjust.

That's how it would likely go down IMO as well.

While conference alignment has taught me to never believe anything until it's signed, I feel like ISU and the Big 12 are safe.

Seems like we just needed to get rid of that Mizzou trash in order to move forward. Do you think there are any Mizzou fans who are saying "maybe it was US that caused the instability"?

    No, for two reasons:
    1) Way too self-centered to figure that out.
    2) Can they really spell "instability?"

I bet they'd try to put a "Z" in there somewhere.

    inzzzstability....

Four things were causing inzzzstability in the Big 12:

    1) NU
    2) MU
    3) TAMU
    4) UT

1-3 are gone, and (4) apparently has decided to play nice.
