    College of Design Graduation

Has anyone ever been to the College of Design Graduation ceremony?

I have a daughter graduating on Saturday - they hold the ceremony at CoD, but it sounds like there is very limited seating and most people have to watch the ceremony on a screen from another room.

    Re: College of Design Graduation

I only went to the architecture graduation. They had seating on the floor of the atrium and then standing room on each floor looking back into the atrium.... Things have probably changed since then, but I don't remember my family having issues getting seats (undergrad architecture was only 50 kids or so).

I imagine students get limited tickets for family, no?

    Re: College of Design Graduation

I went to mine in 2000 and another in 2010. It's crowded and no one gets tickets or reserved seating (to my knowledge). My advice would be to get there early. Like 2 hours early if you want a good seat. In the 2010 one, they had slight issues with the television room for a little while so some parents missed out on seeing their kid if they were sitting in that room. Other than being really crowded, it's kinda cool.

I graduated in the fall and it was pretty packed in the auditorium. I would imagine spring would have double or triple the amount of people...

OK, that is pretty much what I was hearing. I guess we better go early - after 5 years and the $$$ we have spent on her (double major + minor), I don't really want to watch it on TV - need to be there in person.

Daughter is telling me that there is no reserved seating available - even for those of us who are footing the bill!

You would think that they could find somewhere on campus that is large enough to allow the families to be in the same room as the graduates.

Whatever. I don't believe this for one second.

    Re: College of Design Graduation

CoD graduation is definitely unique. Seating IS limited, but I felt it was cool to have people surrounding the atrium on all floors, looking down 5 levels. But if you like "seats" and " sitting" - you're not likely to be happy about the event.

Is the ceremony in the atrium or the auditorium?

Atrium. I guess it can fit more people there? As mentioned before, you can go to one of the upper levels and look down on everything from above if you want.

I've been, and to be honest, if you are a guy, be prepared to stand. There are a lot of older people there seeing their grandchildren graduate that cannot stand for that long. With the extremely limited seating, I would recommend giving up your spot if you have one, if you are are able bodied.

    Just my two cents.
