    5/2 Dodgers vs Rockies

    MLB.com Gameday | MLB.com: Gameday

Check out this horrible call by the ump. On the right side on the bottom, the Hairston incorrectly called out link. Way to anticipate blue!!

I forget the rules on this. Is this a correctable call if he asks for help from the home plate ump? It's not like Helton's toes just came off the bag... he's off by at least 2 feet. That's really, really bad.

It's laughable that the rules would make it so he has to ask for help rather than the home plate ump telling him he's an idiot on his own.

    Yes, it's a correctable error.

I agree with this. When it's THAT brutal, I would think the 1st base ump would rather have somebody step in and get it right than to be a part of one of the worst calls in recent memory. Most of these guys say they just want to get it right. Unless it's somebody like Joe West or Angel Hernandez that thinks everybody is there to watch them, I can't imagine most of these guys having a problem with being corrected on something this bad.

To put it another way, do you think Jim Joyce would have rather have had somebody step in and correct him on Gallaraga's perfect game than to be the guy that will forever be remembered for that one bad call in an otherwise excellent career as an ump? I'm going to go ahead and guess yes.

I think you are right, but he never asked for help. That call stood.

Maybe the ump was confused and thought he was looking at second base on a double play...
