Twins are bad... Weaver throws a No-Hitter

Ugh... Twins aren't playing very well... It's going to be a long season... Swept by the Halo's.... Haven't scored a run in like 19 innings...

It's already been a long season. I'm starting to look less crazy for suggesting that we're going to lose 100+ games this year and/or have the worst record in baseball.

Re: Twins are bad... Weaver throws a No-Hitter

A good friend has a bet with a co-worker (who is a Cubs fan) as to whether his Twins or his co-workers Twins is the first one to be 16.5 games out of first.

Right now, we're tied at 7 games back.

If I'm doing the math correctly- 44 of their last 46 batters have been retired.

Ouch. Bad isn't a strong enough word.

It pains me to say it but this team is playing terrible ball. I think we can turn it around a bit because playing this bad all year would almost be hard to do.

Twins, and it won't even be close. Twins have a more difficult schedule this month with more in-division games than the Cubs. At least the Cubs have SOME pitching (did well against the Reds tonight); the Twins rotation is absolutely awful.

Re: Twins are bad... Weaver throws a No-Hitter

Has Weaver thrown a no-hitter or perfect game before?

I seem to remember him doing it, but I'm tired and the brain might be addled.
My Google search came up empty. My guess is that this is his first, but I'm curious.

Never mind. Looks like he's been involved for 8 innings of a combined no-hitter another time.

At least the tickets I'm looking to buy when the Cubs play in Minnesota in June should be dirt cheap.

Yeah, and to think the Twins have that game at their highest tier of pricing. Actually, they probably will not go down as much as we would like because there are probably a lot of Cubs fans up here who have been hankering to go see Target Field and see their team. Also Twins fans might see that series as one they have a chance of winning.

I know the batting looks bad, but I think the pitching is where it is lost right now.

Well, maybe this will teach our cheap owners that pitching wins. Everything is bad about this team.

Re: Twins are bad... Weaver throws a No-Hitter

It's frustrating. You get rid of Cuddyer and Kubel...two of our better utility players and hitters, and you add no pitching. The only decent add they got was Willingham though he is in his 30s and isn't a long term plug.

First time in a long time that management had a poor off season.

Twins have usually built from within- is their farm system/scouting bad right now or been bad the last few years?

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

The farm system is definitely down right now. I think a big reason is that guys are getting rushed to the majors before they are ready. At this point in the season the Twins are probably better off letting guys develop as opposed to winning major league games.
