NWS confirm it was an EF0 Tornado 85 mph winds

WOW, I posted in the other thread earlier that I thought it was a Tornado and low and behold I was right...

There was a tornado warning for Story County but it was north of Ames...

Damage was from straight line winds, not a tornado. They are just comparing the magnitude of the wind to the EF scale, the winds were as strong as winds in an EF0 tornado.

Yep Channel 8 did a poor job reporting there.

And you base this on??? NWS had the Ames area in a severe thunderstorm warning for high winds during this time frame last night.

I base that on weather accuracy ratings throughout the world.

In the news I've seen, looked like the worst damage was to apartment complexes. That is 50 percent wind and 50 percent ****** construction.

kcci.com is the worst for sensationalizing a story on the headline. this just another example. editing their stories? don't ask.

Re: NWS confirm it was an EF0 Tornado 85 mph winds

Most of the Ames damage was in the northern part of the city. Reports of fences down, some tree branches, and some roof damage as well. Where I live in south Ames, there was little or no damage outside of turned-over trash cans. At least that was all I could see.

Absolutely. Theyre always blowing stories out of proportion, or putting up a sensationalist headline about a story with no mention of its location (implying its around here somewhere) about somewhere nowhere near us.

Agree, but I think, once again, violence, whether storms, traffic accidents, or holdups, is what sells. And they cost little to report. My favorite terror station is the weather channel. They overdramatize the weather whenever they can. The big theme is man vs. nature
