    Football: Strengths vs Weakness

I'd like others take on our strengths and weakness of this years team. Here's mine:
    Strengths:
    -Linebackers
    -Running backs
    -Offensive Line
    -Play Calling

    Potential Weakness:
    Defensive Backs
    Receivers

    Push:
    Quarterbacks
    Defensive Line

Probably a good call based on what we know right now.

Hard to call play calling a strength yet with a new playcaller

I would not expect the O-Line to be a strength.

I admit I haven't been following the offensive line as closely as I could have. I'm just curious if this is going to take a little time to be a strength or if we should be hitting on all cyclinders coming out of the gate.

Losing KO and Hicks is a BIG deal and I hope we aren't overlooking this too much. I know this has been hashed over and over again, but am I just being a nervous nelly or is this something that still might jump up and bite us in the arse?

No on offensive line a push at best. A big question mark on play calling so has to be in the push category. Linebackers are a definite strength. I think defensive line will be closer to a strength than the offensive line. Weakest areas are definitely WR, TEs, and DBs. QBs and RBs are pushes.

An argument could be made the O-Line was average at best with KO and HH so I don't see how it gets better this year. Coach Bleil has yet to impress me.

    Re: Football: Strengths vs Weakness

    The way I see it:

    Strengths

Linebacker - Fairly obvious with 2 returning all conference performers
Punting - I think this one is obvious too.

    Potential Strengths
Running Back - If SJ returns and is what we've been hearing, definitely a strength. Without SJ I'd say we have depth w/average to above average backs, but no standouts.
Defensive Line - I may be overrating here, but I think with the added depth and experience, we're shaping up for a good year.

    Push
Quarterback - Neither of the QBs were better than average last year (if that), and I don't see any reason to expect improvement thusfar.
Offensive Line - Too much youth involved to call it a strength at this point
Secondary - Lost our two best players, CBs are SHORT.

    Potential Weakness
Wide Receiver - No reason to believe in improvement here until they prove it on the field, but the position does seem to slowly be getting more talented.
Tight End - Same as wide receiver. I like Hammerschmidt, but I have more hope for improvement at this position if Brun wins the job.

    Weakness
    Kicking - Fairly obvious

I think OL and playcalling are both unproven. While the staff talks up our OL, they still have to prove it. We lost our best two OL to graduation. That is 40% of the OL gone and I haven't really been overly impressed with the OL development. But they have been young so who knows

We know nothing about playcalling. Nothing and if the bowl game is any indication(which I don't know if it is), yikes.

    Re: Football: Strengths vs Weakness

    Strength
    LB
    RB

    Potential Strength
DB-We lose our best player, and our worst player (IMO). Watson looks good, Givens will be at least as good as Benton
Dline-Maggitt would've been our best DE last year, Irving could push this unit to a strength

    Push
    TE-Solid, but won't be a strength
Oline- We lose our 2 best players, and probably our starting guard (Dika), but we return 6/8 guys who played last year.
WR-Love the young guys, Lenz, Horne, and Gary are going to be much more consistent than Reynolds and Darks

    Weakness
QB- They're just not good, no matter who wins the job

Offensive line and QB are weaknesses until proven otherwise, IMO.

Play calling is a wash at this point.
