Is McCarney an Iowa State Legend?

    I say yes.

McCarney coached for 12 years in teh Big 12 and took this program places that we hadn't been in a long time and some, not me, though we would never go again.

It may go down as the just missed era as we always seemed to just miss, but we just missed some great things. Florida State, Alabama, COlorado, Kansas, ect. Plus, we DOMINATED IOWA! Oh yeah, he is still discussed at length on this board, that may be proof enough.

Some say that Iowa is our Super Bowl, I hope that it is not for most fans lets focus on teh big picture, but if it is, at least we won the Super Bowl most years.

    Go Clones!

Of course he is. So is Earle Bruce, Johnny Majors and Clay Stapleton.

Legend might be strong. I believe if he had kept it together and been here a few more years he would have a statue of himself across from Jack Trice's. Now, I'm not so sure.

Re: Is McCarney an Iowa State Legend?

he wins 1/3 of the woulda/shoulda/coulda's and he is still our coach and someday has a bronze statue...

but since he didn't... he won't and he isn't.

sorry, I loved Dan, but not like that.

Re: Is McCarney an Iowa State Legend?

If we can move upward with Chizik, we will have a mixed description of McCarney: some will say he couldn't get us anywhere, but others will see him as laying the groundwork for some success.

Of course if Chizik totally flops and we don't see a winning season for 20 years, McCarney will instantly be a legend. I hope this doesn't happen (because of the losing of course).

Where exactly will the statue be located?

Two on each end of the field, used as goalposts, with robotic arms which can bat wide sailing kicks through the uprights. McCarney will be the savior.

Re: Is McCarney an Iowa State Legend?

I think McCarney's legacy will depend on how the next couple coaches do in the history of Iowa State football. If they totally flop then he will be a legend. If they succeed then maybe they credit him for starting the rebuilding.

Bellzisu is aka Chris Bellcock. Just so I'm not anonymous anymore.

Kidding, ISU owes Dan a great deal. He turned the program around and if he hadn't we wouldn't have GC today.
