    Re: meningitis

Had the bacterial version about 15 yrs ago. Not fun. The hospital took care of contacting my co-workers, family etc, and told them what they needed to do. I can't recall the name of the drug though.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

    Re: meningitis

I had Meningitis when I lived in New Mexico. It sucks. Really, really sucks. Mine was Viral and they tried to type match it to known strains and were unsuccessful. Imagine one of the worst migraines you've ever had -> 24/7 for 3 months. Seriously.

I was in the hospital for 5 days and almost caused a Riot because I threw a fit and threatened to beat people up if they didn't release me. Yes, I was treated that badly. My immune system got so knocked out, that I had flare up of Shingles and it infected one of my eyes and they refused to treat it. Seriously bad ****. I still have impaired vision in my right eye and it happened in 2004. If I didn't hate lawyers so ******* bad I would have sued them.

Viral and Bacterial Meningitis are very different. Bacterial can be deadly and is highly contagious. Viral is rarely deadly and not contagious. If I understand that correctly anyway. One of the reasons I was so ****** was 3 days after I was admitted, after they identified it as viral, and did an unsuccessful type match they transferred me to a different hospital ... who then put me in an isolation ward !!!

I was glad to be transferred though, I was in such pain they put me on a pain-killer cocktail and was so drugged that I didn't realize that my IV had come loose and blood was spewing out all over me. The nurses refused to come when I punched the ******* button, so I got up and walked into the hallway and started screaming !!!

Oh, the way they identify what type it is, is to do a Spinal Tap ... which is inserting a needle into your Spinal Cord and withdrawing fluid. You would scream but your head hurts so ******* bad, by that time you don't care and just wish somebody would blow your brains out. They then analyze the fluid and send it out for "matching". In my case "no match" so I was ****ed and had to let it "run its course".

This ranks right up there with the worst time of my life; and no you don't want to know the worst.

This sounds like a horror movie...
And now I must say, I am interested in what the worst was.

I'm about 99% sure that Meningitis cannot be spread via mosquitoes.
