    Beer League Softball or Baseball?

I'm staying in Ames this summer and was just wondering if anyone knew of any beer league type softball or baseball leagues that go on in the area. A friend of mine and I played in High school, but are just looking for something fun to kill time and stay active. Thanks.

There is a league. We played every year when I was in college. Ames is really fun in the summer. It was years ago but I'm sure Ames still has a softball league. Have fun.

Ya Ames still has a city league that goes through the summer. I haven't done it in awhile but it was a good time.

Ames has great slow pitch leagues and facilities compared to a lot of places

I SERIOUSLY doubt that is the whole story...

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

Okay, he was drinking and the ump confronted him and the guy mouthed off. Nothing to get kicked out about. Big power trip.

I was going to say...I umped for the Ames league for 2 years and never saw anybody get any flak for drinking at all. Now if they were underage or belligerent that was a different story. Also with the "no swearing" rule there is not a lot of wiggle room for a player getting out of hand...

Re: Beer League Softball or Baseball?

Probably not too late. Most towns/leagues I've heard of or participated in have a registration deadline around the end of the 3rd or 4th week of participation (dependent on total length of season), and teams can register new players up to that date. Most also have a minimum games requirement for playoffs as well, such as all players have to play in half of the team's games to be eligible for the playoffs.

Except that it's in the rules that you can't drink during a game -- only before or after.

So yeah, other than the guy breaking the rules and getting lippy about it, he did nothing wrong.

Ya Ik. It is just kinda dumb in my opinion that you can't have a couple beers when you play. It's not like everyone is bombed there.

It became an issue a few years ago after the concession stands stopped selling beer and went to a BYO policy (in line with other city of Ames parks). Since players could BYO for less money, guys were getting bombed during games and causing problems. So they tweaked the beer rules to try to alleviate that.

If you don't mind the trip to Des Moines you might be able to catch on with a team. www.urbandalesoftball.com has a place you can put your name on a the list for players looking for a team. I already have a 12 man roster for my team in Clive otherwise I'd consider giving you a shot as a sub like I have a few of my other guys that wound up becoming full time players. Best thing you can do is find some opportunities to sub with a team and make a good impression and usually you'll catch on with someone.
