    Grading Cowboys draft so far...

Through 5 rounds the Cowboys draft to me is a C-...

Here's why....they move up to take an Elite Corner in their eyes....and obviously in this day and age the CB is never more important...

However, one way to make a good cb better is to pressure the qb...period...

we have two very good dl in ware and ratliff...

why not stand pat or trade down in the first and take a Coples or Branch and potentially have another third.

Worst case scenario is they end up trading down and taking two starters with the picks at 20 or so and take Decastro and then a DE in the upper 2nd round.

The third round pick of the Boise DE was a value pick. But then to pass on Ronnell Lewis in the 4th to take a guy out of Wake Forrest that is below everybodys top 15 ranked OLB is just Jerry trying to live up to the talent evaluator that Jimmie Johnson was...never happen.

Hope they have a better evaluation process then the other 31 teams and all the other talent evaluators.

The only player I know of or have seen play is Claiborne and I love that pick. It was a def a need for them, the rest who knows if they will ever make the roster.

For Dallas to get one player in the draft that can contribute is a Plus. Dallas has not been good in the draft since the early 90's thus minimal playoff success.

Re: Grading Cowboys draft so far...

    Pick by pick....

Claiborne - lives up to expectations, i would surrender a 1st and 2nd. However, with many glaring holes, and age, the Boyz could have been better served filling best available....when will other teams realize the reason the Pats and Steelers are always good is the way they handle the draft. Draft the trenches - both sides with high draft picks. It never fails, you get pressure your secondary looks better!!!

Clairborne - A+ many believe he was the #1 defensive player in the draft - to be able to pick him is a great move.

    It goes downhill from there.

2nd rd pick - None gave up to move up.

3rd rd pick - Crawford - i would have preferred to see them go DT with either Mike Martin who btw i think will be an exceptional pro or the big guy from Washington Alameda Taamu which would have allowed them to move Rat to DE. A project player.

4th rd pick - Wilbur - wtf....seriously....this guy was hardly even productive at Wake Forest....when your not productive in college it does not bode well for your productivity in the NFL. I cannot believe for the life of me that if you wanted a OLB that you would pass on a faster, more athletic, more accomplished player like Ronnell Lewis and instead go for Wilbur. If you wanted to go other routes, you could have went after Marshall or Carder who ithink are better prospects....Another project.

4th rd pick - Matt Johnson-S: Seriously not again....we keep taking these fliers on guys....Johnson is a project, so what if he ran well, the guy made plays at Eastern Illinois but howd he do when he played big name schools - nothing. With Iloka and Markelle Martin of OSU still out there, you take another reach. A project or maybe special teams player for 201, 2013.

5th rd pick Danny Coale-WR: Not a terrible pick for this position. However, two better players were drafted later this round in marv jones and juron criner. Both are better athletes and more accomplished in the ncaa. Now Coale did play for Vtech so not a bad program but has a history of churning out underachivers as far as WR in the past. A project - but projects as a slot so maybe they see wes welker in him....

6th rd pick - James Hanna-TE: nice value here...decent pick and no real complaint. We needed another receiving TE after the failure of Bennett another project Project pick of JJ.

7th rd pick - Caleb McSurdy - ILB: what can i say - who? even Mcshay and Kipper giggled with the pick....not in thier top 20 players at any position...not good! Not to mention the next two picks are much better prospects in Travis Lewis and Alfonso Drennard (i know i know - he smokes the wacky stuff) but...the nfl is much less protective of those guys and when his money is attached to his drug test, bet he can forget about it. Guy was widely considered one of the best DB in the draft. Why not move him to free safety and let him grow into the position. And if he fails a drug test then he's gone that simple. The risk reward invested into a 7th round pick...it would have been worth it. Besides, could have contributed right away on special teams in a big way. Mcsurdy - project.

So, thats my take on this draft. Sad thing is, almost every pick is a project. To me, thats the Jimmie Johnson and Bill Parcells affect. Jerry Jones so wants to be regarded as a FOOTBALL GUY....got news for you JJ - since you have been running our drafts, our talent has continually went downhill. He takes fliers on guys and then has nothing to show for it when the coach says he cant make the team. I seriously cannot believe this draft. The people that are giving him info are simple not in touch with reality....Crawford a higher rated prospect the Lewis...no way.....Johnson a better prospect then both Martin and Iloka...no way....

My guess without doing the search - if you look at the drafts that Jerry has conducted without JJ or BP, my guess where he has failed miserably has been 4th round on, thats where you get quality depth. Thats why were active in the free agent market every year....he does not do a good job of identify value and target those players. Instead, he so wants to find the under the radar guy that will laud him praise as a football evaluator when/if that player excels.

Oh well, another draft where you say, wow first round pick is solid, rest how hum...Cant wait to be picking in the middle of the pack next year!!!

Re: Grading Cowboys draft so far...

this guy's lowest grade was a C-, handed out to the Raiders. Cowboys got a B. That being said, not sure if C- as the lowest grade makes you feel getting a 'B'.....But, the last two draft grade articles linked gave favorable reviews of the cowboys draft (in large part due to their 1st two picks, it seems).

Re: Grading Cowboys draft so far...

Cypride -yeah i've seen the grades some have put on this class...problem is, the majority of the real evalutors are saying first pick A+ rest of draft is a d...therefore a c- to c+ range....

My main problem is not the areas they tried to fill. However, Romo was sacked repeatedly last year, the OL single handedly gave away 2-3 games. We address it by signing two journeyman guards that nobody else wanted!

For me, Claiborne better be the special player he's projected as Revis type....cuz if he's not and you allowed other teams to take projected pro bowlers is how you end up 8-8 every year. I mean we could have taken Melvin Ingram who i believe will be a pro bowler in Philly. You pair him with Ware, talk about quick pressure...not to mention Ratliff still in the middle...or take in the third Taamu out of Washington to clog the middle and allow ratliff outside and it would free up sean lee to make plays...i mean there's a lot of second guessing from cowboys fans because our drafts for the last 10 years have been a who's who of 1st round picks and then nothing afterward....i mean there's a few bright spots in Lee and Murray....but, the rest are really non-contributors...

the third and fourth round picks could have been a lot better is all im saying....
Lewis is a player and so is Iloka....you will be hearing their names a lot over the next 5-10 years.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE prove me wrong, this team needs some young talent to really transform the roster into a playoff contendor instead of a playoff pretendor.

    I HOPE I'M WRONG!!!!
