    Blocking More Transfers...

With FIU's head coach being fired, Dominique Ferguson wishes to transfer away from the school. FIU has blocked EVERY division 1 school, and Dominique says he will enter the draft he if the blocks remain.

I brought this up because of the Uthoff situation. The NCAA has to make a rule change, that no one can block any STUDENT from transfering (not during the season) to any school not in the confrence.

If he enters the draft, it will ruin his life. He will not make it in the NBA.

Not sure if ISU has any interest. He was highly recruited, but either way, he can't go to any D1 school now. I'm just saying that this rule needs to be changed because I would not let my son or daughter go to these schools.

Yeah it's pretty sad that colleges have to do this.

I wonder if this had to do with their HC being fired... If they haven't hired a replacement yet this might be their way of keeping the kid around long enough to meet the new coach before he decides to transfer. Just a guess.

He could always get financial aid for a year and go to any school in the country he wants to or a juco for a year.

Except for the fact that FIU is not allowing that. Why can't he choose to go to school where he wants?

He can. Just has to pay his own way for a year.

Maybe that's not a viable option for him? Why should he have to anyway?

I'm not saying he should have to go that route but, technically, he isn't forced to go to the NBA. He could be eligible for grants. If he doesn't qualify for grants he could always get a student loan. It's doable but not what he wants.

    Re: Blocking More Transfers...

These are kids trying to get an education. Education is always first. If this kid doesn't like the school, he gets to leave IF the school is ok with that. In this case, and the Uthoff case, they were. They granted the release. When you block schools, that's one thing, when you block every school you might play, that's bad. When you block EVERY school, that's down right awful. This KID should sue for not being aloud to accept a scholarship for wherever he wants to go.

I disagree. He was given a scholarship to the school on the agreement that he play basketball for them. He signed a contract to this agreement. I think the school should have the right to not allow him to breach contract at least until they can introduce him to the new coach. If he is only interested in education, he wouldn't be wanting to leave just because the coach was fired.

Then coaches professors janitors etc should be held to the exact same standard as an 18 year old kid. But there not. It's a joke
