What if we don't land any transfers this year?

What will everyone's reaction be if we end up not getting any transfers this year and all we end up doing is giving Bubu a scholly for another year? So in essence, we lose Railey and Sledge and don't pick anyone else up?

Not that Railey and Sledge will make much difference, but they would provide depth.

I just wonder if Fred thought he could easily replace both Railey and Sledge with better guys, but now is struggling to find anyone? If Lockett ends up at Marquette and we don't get Pelle, we might not get anyone? I know there are others that Fred is looking at, but it's getting late in the process here.

I like our chances with Uthoff, but he won't be able to play this year.

I think Fred will end up finding someone that can help us, but this is why relying on transfers can sometimes get tricky. I just wonder what the response will be in Cyclone country if we don't sign any transfers at all and just give Bubu one of the schollies and the other goes un-used? I predict people will not be happy, but they probably shouldn't be. Depending on landing transfers can sometimes backfire.

I have no problem with our depth next year, we will be fine no matter what. (unless there is a mass exodus).

    First year with Fred?
    We'll be filled up.
Like CyBer said, we have depth anyway. Bringing in more guys just adds to the pile.

Or we die. All of us die. I guess there could be consequences. Dire consequences.

Railey and Sledge were only probably going to play in games where the outcome was determined anyway.

We'd probably have top 25 recruiting class in 2013 to look forward too with all those scholarships to fill.

Re: What if we don't land any transfers this year?

Then that means we will have more flexibility next year to grab a JUCO or another high school player?

Bubu's situation is really fantastic for us. We get a decent scholarship player without having to use a scholarship if we don't have room. If we happen to have room we let him have it, but him and Hoiberg seem to have an agreement that Hoiberg will use the scholarship on a recruit if the opportunity presents itself.

Finally, I would much rather leave a scholarship slot open than sign a below average prospect who will likely transfer one or two years into the program. Who knows who could become available next year that we might need room for. It could allow us to grab a couple Big 12 ready JUCOs as well as some high school players, or a transfer player next year while still getting high school players to develop.

Anything is better than dead weight that won't contribute on scholarship, taking up spots of potential difference makers.

In all seriousness...I wouldn't be happy. I'd still feel good about next year, but we NEED Pelle or Lockett to really make another good run. I'm not worried though. Fred will get one of the two.
