25 games suspension for a hit that wasn't even called a foul in the game ....

    1) thats a crap load of games.
    2) if it was that bad of a hit (it was) and in front of a official (it was), the officiating was horrible.

best money Quenneville ever spent was ridiculing the officiating .... disgrace.

It was a hard hit but not worth 25 games. Of course I don't follow hockey very much so don't know how hard their suspensions are.

Hockey suspensions are handed down hard on repeat offenders. Especially if said player is suspended multiple times in the same season, which is now the case with Torres.

The guy has been suspended before for stuff similar to this. I think this is his 3rd suspension? Combining leaving the feet, targeting the head, hitting someone without the puck, and his prior record, I think this is a fair and well-deserved punishment.

completely agree and for those saying that's a lot of games yeah it is but it's deserved it's not the first time this guy has been suspended for illegal hits

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Didn't even really look like that dirty of a hit to me. He left his feet after the collision. Looked like just a really hard hit

Ahh got ya. Yeah I heard he was a kind of an *******. Just glad Rossa was fine after it. It made me cringe when I saw it on TV.

He was jumping before the hit and put his shoulder into the head of a defenseless player who didn't have the puck. It was as dirty of a cheap shot since the Bertuzzi incident.

He had just lost control of the puck, skating down the middle with his head down. Pick your head up and your not defenseless. Not Torre's fault Hossa doesn't know the first rule of hockey

The officiating has been absolutely horrible. If I were a tin foiled hatter, I'd say it's as if the NHL is trying to protect the team that it owns. That being said, I don't blame poor officiating nearly as much as I blame subpar on-ice play. Poor special teams (particularly the power play), bad turnovers, and weak goaltending letting in soft goals, particularly in overtime.

Funny - I thought the first rules of hockey were not leaving your skates and not targeting the head when hitting another player. I don't mind that Torres hit Hossa "defenseless", I mind that he hit to injure. And don't give me the "it was an accident" BS. He has a history of dirty hits, being suspended 3 times in the last year, the whole reason he got 25 games this time.

Re: Raffi Torres suspended 25 games for hit on Hossa

It would just make more sense to do this:

Q: After Nashville's Weber received a $2,500 fine for slamming Zetterberg's face into the glass but Chicago's Shaw got a three game suspension for a collision in which he was obviously not trying to injure Phoenix's Smith, I'm starting to think the NHL has a giant wheel that they spin whenever they need to dole out playoff punishment. Sometimes it will land on an much to heavy suspension and other times you'll get out of jail free. What other explanation can there be?
    — Peter, Chicago

SG: Even if Peter was kidding, he inadvertently stumbled onto a killer idea. Since there's no rhyme or reason to these suspensions, anyway, why not build a giant punishment roulette wheel and have Brendan Shanahan spin it to decide every suspension? The wheel could look like the Price Is Right's "Showcase" wheel and have 10 different penalty spots repeated two times each — $2,500 fine, $5,000 fine, $10,000 fine, $25,000 fine, $50,000 fine, one-game suspension, two-game suspension, three-game suspension, four-game suspension and a series suspension — along with two "get out of jail free"–type spots (which would save the player from any penalty) and one "banned from the playoffs" spot (so you'd have a 1-in-23 chance of getting bounced). Three things I like about this idea …

    1. Wouldn't we see fewer cheap shots because everyone would be afraid of taking their chances with the punishment wheel? Cross-check someone in the face and you might miss a couple of games. But with those 1-in-23 "banned from the playoffs" odds looming? Maybe you'd think twice.

    2. You know how awkward between-period interviews are? Can you imagine how awkward the before-during-after sequence of Shanahan spinning the punishment wheel live on the NHL Network or WET would be? I would watch this EVERY time.

    3. Isn't this admittedly absurd idea no less absurd than the haphazard way in which they doled out punishment during these playoffs? Really, you get $2,500 for slamming someone's head against the glass like Triple H slamming Undertaker's head against the side of a steel cage, but three games for semi-accidentally running into a goalie?

That's a nice story you got there, too bad it didn't happen. Hossa's head wasn't down, Torres was CLEARLY in the wrong, targeting his head, come on dude...this isn't even debatable.
