    Question Question: secondary team?

I posted earlier in the week about the Red Sox, and was chastised for it. I am a Cubs fan first, that is certain. However, I have enjoyed watching the Red Sox since I was little because my dad likes them. Now this raised an interesting question to me, Is it wrong to have a secondary team in the other league?

For instance: a guy loves the Green Bay Packers, but since KC is on every week ..there is a sort of secondary following that develops. What is the general consensus about this? Does this make me less of a fan?

As long as it's not Iowa.

I really should have a plan B. It might make my life easier.

Well, let's see. You, like I, are a Cubs fan and a Clones fan.

I think a secondary team is near essential for survival.

I would say you can have a secondary sports team if your wife lets you have a secondary. Makes sense right? Just kidding, I always figured as long as they aren't in the same division it would be alright.

It's sacrilege, but I root for both the Cards and the Astros. NL Central foes...but I still like both teams. I take solace in the fact that I can still root against the Cubs either way.

    Re: Question: secondary team?

Bill Simmons had a good column on this not too long ago.

ESPN.com: Page 2 : Rules for being a true fan

That said, I went to a bunch of Mariners games over the summer and they became my AL team (behind, of course, the cubs). The girlfriend didn't approve of that though since the M's were fighting the Yankees for the wildcard late in the summer.

    Re: Question: secondary team?

I am a Red Sox fan but I enjoy watching the Twins or Cubs play and glad when they win, unless they play the Red Sox. I think it is easy for a person to have a team grow on them if they see them play a lot and the team is near by.

    Re: Question: secondary team?

I most certainly have my favorite teams (you can see which in my signature), but as is the case I usually have a team that I "cheer" for in at least every conference, if not division, in virtually every sport. Generally I don't purchase any merchandise of any of the "other" teams, it's just teams that I root for on the side (my favorite teams in all cap)s:

    MLB:
    Boston
    MINNESOTA
    Seattle
    NEW YORK METS
(undecided in the NL central - varies between St. Louis and Houston)
    Colorado Rockies

    NFL:
    ATLANTA
    New York Giants
    (undecided in NFC North)
    Seattle
    New England
    Baltimore
    (undecided in AFC Central)
    (undecided in AFC West)

    NHL
    TAMPA BAY
    New York Islanders
    Ottawa
    Chicago
    Minnesota
    Dallas

    NBA
    Orlando
    Minnesota

Let's not get me started on the NCAA...

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

    Re: Question: secondary team?

I used to cheer for the Brewers, in addition to my favorite team, the Mets. However, they jumped to the NL, and that ended that.

I only cheer for one team in the NFL, NHL, MLB and football. After that, I just cheer for the perennially horrible teams, or teams with ISU players.
