Is ISU the early favorite in the CY-Hawk game next year?

I don't think the differences are real great between the programs and Iowa has home field this year.

But I think ISU probably has the advantages in the trenches on both sides ISU's OL vs Ia's DL, and I think ISU's DL has a slight edge over the Iowa OL(its been a long time since a person would say that coming into a season). Especially when you throw in the linebacking core ISU has backing the DL up.

The QB position could go either way with Vandenburg or Jantz(I think he wins the battle, he seems to have more upside if he doesn't turn it over).

ISU definitely has the more proven running backs at this point and is probably better if Shontrelle Johnson comes back healthy.

I think either defensive backfield could win the battle against the other receiving core and would give Iowa an advantage with the stronger DB core but I don't think ISU will be too bad in this area.

I also think the ISU spread offense will be a hard test on the young Iowa DL early on. They will have to maintain their spacing and lanes or either one of ISU's QB's can run, and Johnson or White for ISU can rip off a big one.

Its early but I think at this point I would consider ISU a 3-4 pt favorite, curious what others think.

87-3 ISU is my early guess on the points... Kinnick just doesn't scare anyone nowadays... It's just a glorified high school stadium... Also, I predict Kirk will go through 5 strips of gum throughout the game...

There will be more thinking and less reacting for the Hawkeyes as they adjust to game day with new coordinators. A miscommunication here and a slightly slow reaction there adds up in a football game.

It is in Kinnick, though. Hard to say we will win without knowing who is running the offense on the field, too.

I think ISU will have the better team but Iowa will be a 6-8 point favorite. Iowa's defense will still be slow and bad next year. Will our offense be able to take advantage better than last year? Let's hope so. ISU shouldn't have needed OT to beat that rag-tag bunch of Hawks last year in JTS.

    NO
Lots of questions for both teams.

Re: Is ISU the early favorite in the CY-Hawk game next year?

No. ISU does not have a QB. When you go into a season with a 3 man battle, means you really don't have a QB. I would like to see JB get the job, he did go on the road in the big 12 and almsot had a 2nd win against KSU. Oh yeah, he was the QB that lead ISU to a win over #2 OSU.

Iowa will be favored probably by 6-7 points. However if ISU can get the QB situation figured out sooner than later, then I think ISU has a real good chance of going down there and pulling it out.

We are very rarely favored over the projected national champions. This year won't be any different.

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

You know, after some of the threads that popped up here at the end of basketball session this year, these sorts of comments are just ironic now.

Interesting. I've seen a few opinions stating that DL will be ISU's weakest unit. Yet our weakest unit will be better than Iowa's traditional strongest one? I'm trying to keep the giggles away, but it's hard.

Well, I would hope so. Throw in the LBs and its 7 on 5. We had better beat them. And now the giggles will not go away.

I don't see ISU being favored in a game at Kinnick Stadium for a long time to come. There's plenty of hope for a win this fall, but going in saying we should be favored is just an attempt to create bulletin board material.

Nope. Both teams have enough question marks that on a neutral site it would be a pick 'em. Home field is worth about a few points, so pencil in the Hawks as 3-4 point favorites right now.

Hawks favored by 7.5 at minimum I think.

This is an easy one. Iowa will be favored to win. Whether they actually do it or not remains to be seen.

You mean the one that talked about some point in the future we could win a NC in basketball with Hoiberg running the show??

Yeah that's the exact same as Hawks projecting a football NC every year.
