    O & D Line Recruiting

How are we doing doing in this area for next year? I hear a lot about some of the skill players we have coming in, but not much on on lineman and they really are what make or break a football team.

    Re: O & D Line Recruiting

    3 DE's (2 *** & 1 **)
    1 OL (**)

It sure would be nice to get Cedric Mack (JC) and a couple other OL recruits before it is all said and done.

It would be nice to get a couple big DT's maybe a JC for immediate impact because we are going to miss Tuba in the middle.

I am looking forward to what Sheppard can do with all of the linemen in off-season. I am impressed by what he/they accomplished in the short time he has been in Ames.

The oline should be fine next year. Another year under Shep and they are improving weekly.

    Re: O & D Line Recruiting

Well it seems that our D-Line is getting pressure on the QB. Now if only we could work on finishing those with tackles.

Also seems like there was a tight end recruit who has the frame to become an offensive linemen.

YEAH they spoke about that its Carter Bykowski - he will be shifted to Tackle my guess to utilize his athletic ability which should help against fast DE.

Another thing is our OL is all back next year, more experienced and bigger under shep, with all our HS kids from last year then having 2 years of work under shep and learning the system that they will be ready to either compete next year or take over spots the following.....Our OL looks good.....DL well someone else let me know how it looks.....

Did KO (Kelechi Osemele) redshirt? He was one of our recruits from last year that I was really looking forward to seeing on our O-line.

    Re: O & D Line Recruiting

I would actually expect at this point that the OL will be the strength of next year's team. There has been exponential improvement from these guys this year from Spring ball and I can't wait to see what another year under Shep and MacFarland.
I'm not a big fan of recruiting HS OL, but I'm all about recruiting HS TE's and DL and turning them into OL. Get a lot more athleticism that way.

    Re: O & D Line Recruiting

For the O-line hopefully we get Cedrick Mack and with Kelechi Osemele being off redshirt and hopefully center from texas Evan Epstein Evan Epstein - Football Recruiting

for the Defenseive line. We are of course losing two senior defensive tackles. But Jarod Black redshirted this year and michael tate. Hopefully we can land Swanson miller, Joe marshall and somebody else for d tackle. It would be nice to get that 4* defensive end that visited as well

And I believe we also have Trey Baysinger for next year. Sounded like a good prospect from last year's class.

    Re: O & D Line Recruiting

Chizik has said he is very happy with 3 freshman OL players that are redshirting this year. McFarland and him have great hope for these guys. They are Kelechi Osemele, Trey Baysinger, and Joseph Klerekoper. They think Joseph will be the best one of them all. Hope that helps!

We actually have him for four more years....this is the guy i think will be a cornerstone left tackle, prototype size, athletic and has that look of "I'm gonna whip your a#& all day" god i love that intimidating look by an OT.....

Our O-line maybe has the most depth of any position going into next besides running back....I really like how our young o-line has developed week to week....i think they've made a huge jump from the beginning of the year, had we been as pleased with our qb/wr play as our O-line we would be looking at 5 wins not 1, the only two times we've been dominated were texas and t-tech.....

lets hope our youngsters develop and i love the idea of redshirting both ol and dl players because unless your #1 or #2 at that position on the recruiting charts, your body is not ready for big 12 play....maybe kent st but not big 12.....

We get those lines taken care of and i agree medium level talent become heisman trophy candidates just ask Brad Banks....ummm where is he now???? That speaks volumes to what a great oline can do....

What I like about those guys is all 3 of them are 6'5" and up. I'd love to have an absolutely mammoth O-line and just maul people, I hope that's what Chizik has in mind. O-Line depth may be a huge advantage soon.

    Re: O & D Line Recruiting

Size and strength for the o-linem are essential, but they are nothing without proper technique. This is the part of the game where I hope our coaching staff can have the greatest impact.

I think Loney was good evidence that you can do a lot without the biggest and strongest.

    Re: O & D Line Recruiting

I think O-Line is still one of the weak links on the team. We are redshirting 5 offensive linemen - 2 JUCO and 3 freshmen. If 2-3 of the redshirts are listed as starters after spring ball I will feel a whole lot better about next year.
