    Help opening a Works document

Sooo, if you've been following my hard drive crash episode, you'll know that I'm in the dog house a bit for my wife losing her files.

She had them backed up on Sugar Synch, but the one problem is a Works document that she had cataloged about 3500 CD's into.

It's there on Sugar Synch, but when we go to open it, it errors out. Had the same problem when my last computer died and she had to spend weeks reentering all her information.

Any tricks would be appreciated (I am buying the setup to trying to get everything off my old hard drive too). Thanks in advance

Good question, one that I lacked the testicular fortitude to ask myself. I did suggest that it be done in excel or another format, but this idea didn't fly. And I'm not about to bring this back up as the cause of our current state of affairs.

It opens, and then a warning message comes up that says that it has an error, or 3 or 4 depending on when you hit the yes-open-it button (doesn't really specify), and if you cancel out, you can see the first several lines of the database, but after that, the cells are all filled with "demo" (she has a bunch of demo CD's). I'll have to look at it closer to see more specifically.

Do you need me to talk to her for you? We could stage a break in and I could steal all 3500 (seriously?) CDs, then she won't need the document!

Here's the problem- I would still have to stay there and listen to how ****** she would be if that happened. Otherwise, it's genius.

I didn't say it was without flaws. But fine.

Re: Help opening a Works document

The question is should a Wildcat be extremely nice to a Cyclone. I just happen to have a "Works" CD at home. If a Clone were to install "Works" on his computer and open those files he could most likely save them in "Word" format. It would probably get his wife off his back.

If the Clone were to PM the Wildcat he would probably do the right thing and loan the disk to the Clone. I could bring the CD to work or perhaps even get it to Chris Williams if that would be helpful.

Ah, the terrible conundrums we must face!

I actually have a Works CD, and I downloaded it on to her computer, so I've tried to open it from there. Is there a way to convert it to Word without it being completely open?

    Thanks

Yes, I am playing with the poor guy but also feel his pain. I messed up a computer and lost bunches of my wife's stuff that was on it. She was not a happy camper. I really do have a "Works" disk. Cyclone is welcome to borrow it.

Try hitting save and see if you can change the format of the file when you do.
