    Fred as "Get Motivated" Speaker

Is anyone else planning on going to this "Get Motivated" conference in Des Moines? It looks like Fred is lined up as the lead speaker on competitiveness. Looks like they've got Captain Kirk in the lineup too for Motivation. Some of the other speakers look pretty attractive too. I remember going to this conference when it was here around 6 years ago maybe.

Kik with motivation? He knows how to coach college football, but getting people motivated with his speaking prowress is not his forte. I would put him right before lunch while people are heading out early.

Usually they go to these so they can take another day off, but make it look like they are trying to improve.

The whole point of this seminar is for employers to send their employees there hoping that they can push motivation upon them so they will come back and be more productive.

The problem with that theory is that you can only motivate people for something they want to do in the first place. If they weren't excited about their job before they go to the seminar, nothing anyone says during the seminar will change that.

99% of the people only go to get the day off from work.

    Fixed.

Re: Fred as "Get Motivated" Speaker

I went to one in Wichita last year. The speakers are generally ok, but there's more to the seminar than getting people motivated.

Each speaker talks for about 20 minutes or so, then the hosts talk for a while. About a couple hours in, there was an hour and a half presentation on Scottrade's online software. After it was over they let us go for a break and there were dozens of people ready to sign you up for it.

A work emergency came up and I had to leave around lunchtime, but I heard there was something similar with another company in the afternoon half too.

I'm not trying to pass judgement one way or another, I know people that really enjoyed it. I just want to let people know what to expect.

This is true. I went to the Des Moines one a few years ago and thought it was neat, but too much other crap thrown in. I don't want to make this political, but you might want to do some research on the married couple behind these seminars. This is why I'm surprised Fred is participating.

Re: Fred as "Get Motivated" Speaker

I went to the one in Des Moines a few years back and it was really cool seeing the speakers. Some very big names. But the entire thing just became an infomercial to sell crap to all the get rich quick suckers in the audience. Very sad. How else do you think they can afford to pay all the headliner speakers without selling you something when your seats are basically free. I would go back, just to see Freddie, Joe Montana, Others, but be ready for the onslaught of BS sales tactics.

Yeah, the last one I went to at WF motivated me to buy books from the speakers.

Agree with previous posters about all the sale presentations in between speakers. Why don't they put the get-rich-quick , cant-fail stock picking program saleman on the agenda. Also, they way oversell tickets to get there early.

    Stay motivated my friends.

    GET MOTIVATED SEMINARS:
I went to one of these in Des Moines maybe six(?) years ago. It was Steve Forbes talking about the flat tax and Phil Town pushing his investment books and seminars. There was George Foreman and a couple of others too.

It wasn't all bad, but it was just slickly produced nothingness. They advertised tickets as being $200 or $300 if I recall, but they were literally giving them away outside.

Apparently they struck on the idea of having local celebrities participate, to help drive attendance. Good for Fred but I wish he wouldn't associate with it.
