    Yet another Albert Gary thread

I'm sorry if this has been discussed before- a quick search revealed that it has not.

We knew about the plea bargain, but Iowa Courts Online shows a new felony charge from the Albert Gary incident- Armed with Intent (Class D Felony) in addition to the felony Robbery charge.

I do not remember seeing the second felony charge before. According to this article, as part of his plea bargain, he will plead guilty to two felonies- first degree theft, a class class C felony, and going Armed with Intent, a class D felony.

ISU football player gets plea bargain | Ames Tribune

Sounds like a strange plea bargain where in exchange for getting one Class B felony dropped, you plead guilty to a Class C AND Class D felony.

I'm not sure how he can possibly remain at ISU after 2 felony convictions (even if he receives a deferred judgement, we now know that ISU treats deferred judgements similar to convictions).

It has already been discussed I'm pretty sure in this thread. I think everyone deserves a second chance. If not, Royce White wouldn't have been able to come here.

I was aware of that thread, but I guess I did not realize that he was pleading guilty to two felonies. I just assumed that first-degree robbery was being reduced to first degree theft. The second felony was news to me. But I suppose it is old info.

Looks like he is no longer practicing. Videos of the WR's practicing on cyclones.com today and he's the only one not there.

Two felonies might be too much IMO. I don't see how he stays on the team, but nothing surprises me anymore these days.

Rhoads probably knew about both felonies, I doubt he isn't practicing.

You doubt he isn't practicing? Ok then, where was he? Or is he "injured" now?

Pretty sure that's him in the blue jersey. They do say Albert to him in the first slant drill.

Are you at the practices? You think they film everything and everyone? Ok then.

Isn't Albert the one in the blue shirt? I'm almost positive I hear one of the coaches say good job Albert after he catches a pass.

Re: Yet another Albert Gary thread

If bringing a player back after a misdemeanor counts as a second chance, does bringing a player back after 2 misdemeanors count as a third chance?

What about after 2 felonies on campus with the victims being ISU students?

Opinion is obviously divided on this board about what Rhoads will do. Typically, I am not against welcoming rehabilitated non-violent convicts in society- even repeated violators. But putting myself in Rhoads shoes, it's going to be awfully difficult to let Gary back.

Re: Yet another Albert Gary thread

As long as Albert Gary continues to shine on the football field, he'll get as many chances as he needs ... and no one will question it. Meanwhile, victims of armed robbery will live the rest of their lives with the mental anguish of having a gun pointed in their face. And yes, I know it was just a BB gun, but when you're in that situation, you don't know the difference. You just know someone wants what you have, and if you don't give it to them, there's a good chance they'll shoot you.

Sorry for the rant. A case like this hits a little closer to home, as I'm close to someone who was once a victim of armed robbery. I have no sympathy or tolerance for guys like Albert.

Not meaning to minimize the victims. But from the narrative of the incident. One of the guys patted them down and Albert Gary "flashed" the pellet gun. It doesn't say that he pointed the gun at their faces like you state. And nothing was taken.

Albert Gary was stupid and wrong in what he did. But the plea deal seems rather harsh IMO. It likely has the stipulation of suspended sentence and probation and probably an assurance from Rhoads that he can remain on the team but have a very short leash going forward IF he pleads out and cooperates with authorities. Otherwise I don't see the motivation in pleading to the charges.
