Major NCAA investigation on Baylor WBB recruiting

It's a long article but the bottom line it seems is that Kim Mulkey will be punished by losing two 2013 scholarships and will not be allowed to recruit off campus this summer. Lots of excessive and apparently out-of-bounds texts and phone calls when recruiting Griner....

I saw this in another article, too, but the "summer period" is defined as just the month of July. I don't know much about the recruiting process/timeline, but is losing the month of July a big punishment? I usually don't think of a single month defining a season (in this case the "summer recruiting season") for anything.

The bullet list in the article are Baylor's self-imposed sanctions.

More may come but I doubt it.

July is easily the biggest month for basketball recruiting. That's definitely a big penalty.

Thanks. I missed that detail in my quick skims. The question still remains, though, if keeping Mulkey on campus for the month of July is a "real" punishment (regardless of who imposes it).

I got a kick out of the men's sanctions. Let's take away a scholarship that we didn't end up using last season. That's like us saying, "Well we didn't use all of those scholarships during the McDermott era, that'll be our punishment".

Perhaps the NCAA can tell Ken Starr that they can get off if he heads the investigation into Kentucky basketball.

Ugh. This is a slap on the wrist, same for the men's team. The NCAA needs to start handing down much larger punishments. I just bet that these "oversights" and "mistakes" would magically disappear.

Those are not the NCAA sanctions. More could come down from them.

"The men's and women's basketball programs at Baylor University are facing possible NCAA sanctions following an investigation that uncovered more than 1,200 impermissible phone calls and text messages during a 29-month span."

Just wondering but is everything being reported so far by Baylor self-imposed? And if so, are the doing it to hope that NCAA doesn't drop the hammer as hard?

So they cheated and won a national title. They should be stripped of it if they cheated to get it.

Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.
